Longshots are longshots for a reason. Don't waste your bankroll looking for that one big ticket. If, in your handicapping, a longshot looks competitive, add it to your ticket. Otherwise, don't add longshots for the sake of adding them, as it's a losing recipe

The favorite historically wins 33 percent of the time. The key to wagering is to determine if the favorite is a "bad favorite." Bad favorites are horses to try and beat every time. They create tremendous value. Anytime you see a favorite that looks vulnerable you must take a shot against that horse.

A successful bettor looks for value. Always look for overlays, which are horses that go off at higher odds than their perceived chances of winning. Betting on the races is equal parts handicapping, and making wagers that are worthwhile to your bankroll.
