Did you know that this year there are 70 bowl spots open. 70!!!
There may not be enough teams that finish at 6-6 to fill all of the bowl openings. What this means is that bowl games will have to petition the NCAA to allow 5-7 teams to be rewarded to play in meaningless bowl games.
Between the 9 top conferences. PAC 10, SEC, Big 12, Big 10, ACC, Big East, Mountain West, WAC and CUSA there are a total of 95 teams. Add in the 3 independents along with the MAC and Sun Belt conference and that brings you to 120 teams.
The list above is in rank of power rankings. The MAC conference is below the Colonial Athletic Conference in ranking. The MAC also makes up more than 10% of the 120 teams in total with 13 teams. The Sun Belt is below such power conferences as Big Sky, Southern and Missouri Valley, all of which are I-AA conferences.
People wonder why there is an outcry for a playoff system in DIV I. Why play a full season if more than 1/2 the teams are going bowling? Let's just put names in a hat and draw for matchups.
I mean we should have the Freaksforum.com Bowl and can put together a pair of 6-6 teams and I can come on during commercial breaks and talk about the site and at 1/2 time have a contest where people could have their own topic for winning a contest.
I mean afterall wouldn't it be great to have the Freaksforum.com Bowl held at Veteran Stadium, Stewman21 could come down and do the honorary coin toss. We could have BeantownJim be an honorary captain and Bob Sparks for the other team.
The halftime show could be Yzer19 performing his greatest karaoke hits and his dancers could have a wardrobe malfunction.
As for the teams, hell let's get someone out of the Big East to take on the ACC. Maybe we could have UCONN take on Boston College.
I am sure that will get ratings as the score at half time remains deadlocked at 0.
We might as well because we will get those type of games within the next month. Get your armchair, your pillow and set your remote control timers for auto shutoff it's going to be a snoozefest for certain.
