The 17th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys will travel to the Ferrell Center on Thursday evening to take on the 3rd-ranked Baylor Bears in a Big 12 battle. These teams faced off back on Jan 23 in Oklahoma State and Baylor picked up a 81-66 road win. The Sooners are fourth in the Big 12 with a 17-6 record and a 10-6 conference record. They are on a five-game winning streak after defeating the Oklahoma Sooners 79-75 on Monday. The Bears are the top team in the Big 12 with a 19-1 record and an 11-1 conference record. They are coming off a 94-89 road overtime win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Tuesday.

These teams are some of the best teams in the entire country so it will be interesting to see how they will be able to match up against one another here. Let’s take a deeper dive into the matchup to decide where we should be placing our wagers.

The Next Number 1 Pick?
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have been leaning on freshman guard Cade Cunningham to lead the offense this year. He is averaging 19.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 1.5 steals in 35 minutes per game. He’s shooting well as he is 45.1 percent from the field, 41.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 85.4 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Sooners, Cunningham played 40 minutes and finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, a steal, and five turnovers. If he can figure out how to be better on the offensive side of the floor, the Cowboys will be in a great spot.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have been average on defense this season as they are giving up 71.6 points per game. In their last game against the Oklahoma Sooners, they allowed 75 points on 26-of-64 (40.6 percent) from the floor, 13-of-34 (38.2 percent) from the three-point line, and 14 free-throws. If they can limit the amount of open threes in this game, they will be in a better spot.

Served on a Silver Platter
The Baylor Bears have depended on junior guard Jared Butler to control the offensive production this year. He is averaging 16.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2.3 steals in 29.2 minutes per game. He’s shooting incredibly well as he is 48.3 percent from the field, 43.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Mountaineers, Butler played 39 minutes and finished with 25 points, three rebounds, six assists, and a block before fouling out. If he can figure out how to replicate this performance, this will be a nice game for him.

The Baylor Bears have been solid on defense this season as they are giving up 63.7 points per game. In their last game against the West Virginia Mountaineers, they allowed 89 points on 26-of-56 (46.4 percent) from the floor, 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) from the three-point line, and 32 free-throws. If they want to continue improving defensively, they need to figure out how to defend without fouling.

In an effort for both teams to fit in as many games into their schedule as possible, Vanderbilt will visit Cincinnati. The Bearcats have only been able to play 18 games this year and Vanderbilt has played 21. Both of these teams are dealing with injuries and opt-outs so this should be a very interesting non-conference showdown.

Injuries Galore
While Vanderbilt has a lot of talent on this team, the Commodores are without their two best players, Scotty Pippen Jr. and Dylan Disu. Scotty Pippen Jr. gave this team 20.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists while Dylan Disu contributed 15 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 37% from deep. In their first game without both of these players available, Vanderbilt upset Ole Miss at home 75-70. However, they came back down to life with an 83-68 loss to LSU in their next game.

The good news for the Commodores is they have a very deep team. They rank 22nd in bench minutes and their average points per game haven't changed without Pippen Jr. and Disu. Freshman Isaac McBride has come off the bench to average 10 points a game and Maxwell Evans has averaged 16.5 points, 7.7 points higher than his season average.

Roster Continuity
While Vanderbilt has injury issues, Cincinnati has opt-out issues. David DeJulius, Zach Harvey, and Gabe Madsen all opted out of the season recently for personal reasons. These players were responsible for 26% of the Bearcats points per game and DeJulius led the team in assists. They also lost transfer big-man Rapolas Ivanauskas to injury for the year. In other words, this team is extremely thin right now.

In their first game without DeJulius, the Bearcats didn't miss a beat. This team blew out Tulane 91-71 behind 27 points from Jeremiah Davenport and 20 from Tari Eason. However, the Bearcats ran into a hot Memphis team and fell at home 80-74 as the team shot just 61% from the free-throw line.

Interestingly enough, the Bearcats average just 69.5 points per game but since DeJulius opted out, they have scored 82.5 per game.

It will be Senior Night in Lawrence Thursday night as UTEP travels to KU to take on the Jayhawks. The Miners come in at 12-10 overall and 8-8 in conference play, and are eager for a quality victory to boost their tournament chances in their season finale. They Jayhawks, as per usual, are a lock to make the NCAA Tournament, but it has been a fight for them all year, and no win has been guaranteed. They look to pick up one more win on their Senior Night and regular season finale, as they prepare for the Big 12 Tournament next week.

Miners must defend inside to will their way to a victory
While many other Kansas teams have featured big-time backcourt play, this one has a totally different identity. They are a poor outside shooting team, and their strength is inside with dominant big man David McCormack. Their guards are not much of a shooting threat, but Kansas is always in attack mode on offense and look to get to the basket on every possession. UTEP will have to defend inside, and not allow any easy bucket in the paint.
The Miners are in desperate need of a win, and any other year against Kansas, it would have been completely unrealistic to think that they could go into Allen Fieldhouse and pick up a win. However, this season is different, as they Jayhawks are beatable, and UTEP hopes to be able to shoot the ball at a high rate, and pick up a quality win that could propel them into the back end of the tournament, without having to win their conference tourney.

Jayhawks hope to close out rollercoaster season on a high note
As mentioned before, it has been a wild season for Kansas, who has had to completely reinvent themselves to be successful. They have been fantastic as of late, and they are on their way to yet another NCAA Tournament berth. Credit coach Bill Self for recognizing what needed to be fixed, as Kansas is right in contention with the other Big 12 teams, especially after crushing top-ranked Baylor recently. They hope to close out their regular season on a big note headed into the conference tournament in Kansas City.

Kansas prepares to host a UTEP team who are in desperate need of a victory, so this game will be no cake walk for them. The Miners will throw the kitchen sink at them, in hopes of snagging an upset victory, so Kansas will have to be on their game. As has been their formula all season long that few have stopped, they will try and be extremely efficient and dominant in the paint, and try to impose their will and come out of their senior night win a win.

The UCF Knights will head north to take on the East Carolina Pirates as they look to take them down once again this season. The Knights won the first matchup by seven points with a score of 71-64. The Knights were off to a rough start this year but have found a groove as of late as they have won three straight with a record of 9-11. The Pirates may have pulled off the upset of the year against Houston but have lost back-to-back games since then as they have posted a 8-8 record.

The Knights have been a little better with battling it out with the odds as they are 11-9 ATS while they have also played 11 of their 20 games in the over. The Pirates are 5-9 ATS this year as they have played in quite a few low scoring contest which has kept 9 of their 14 games in the under. The Pirates are favored in this one but have been inconsistent this year so this one could come down to the wire.

Sweep in the Works
The Knights battled it out with the Pirates earlier this season while they were able to get the victory by 7 points. The Knights were up by 17 points when the first half came to an end but allowed the Pirates to battle back in the second half and make this a close one. The Knights are just a little better on the offensive end with 67.4 points but struggle defensively as they are giving up 70.2 points. The defense was the problem the last time out as they allowed the Pirates to battle back from a 17 point deficit, if the Pirates were able to get a few shots to drop in that fist half this would have been a totally different game. The Knights are a really good shooting team at 50.4% but 36.3% from deep with 8.7 three's on only 21.9 attempts. UCF can get themselves in foul trouble which hurts their defense even more, they are sending opponents to the free throw line for 19.3 attempts per game.
The Knights have been carried by Guard Darius Perry who is putting up 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Perry has been good for the Knights this season but he cannot solely lead this team, when Perry has scored over 14 points the Knights have only won two games while they have lost four times. With at least two of those losses coming by double digits, when Perry is relied on to pull through for this team he starts throwing up some reckless shots which gets the Knights in trouble. The Knights need Perry to just hold them together and get others some open looks, if he can do that the Knights can pull off the sweep.

Pirates in Choppy Water
The East Carolina Pirates were able to take down a top 10 team (Houston) which is easily their biggest win of the last few years. Since then the Pirates have lost two games in a roll, given those two teams were not pushovers. The Pirates have been scoring 65.8 points per game but have relied on their defense to hold teams close at 67.4 points. The Pirates are not a good offensive team by any means as they are shooting the ball at 46.0% and only hitting 5.7 three pointers in each contest. However, they have held opponents to 48.0% from the field and 31.2% from deep which has allowed their offense to stay in the game. Their fault comes from fouling as they are allowing opponents to shoot 21.9 free throws per game.
The Pirates have received big minutes from Forward Jayden Gardner who is filling up the stat sheet with 18.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. Gardner erupted for 23 points and 10 rebounds in the last meeting with most of those coming in the second half, if the Pirates want to get their revenge here they will need to get him going early instead of falling behind by 17 points again. Gardner has the ability to take over the game as he has only scored less than 16 points in five contests this season.

These are two teams going in completely different directions. Arizona State was thought to be a dark horse to win the NCAA Championship, but COVID-19 and injury issues had other ideas for the Sun Devils. While Arizona State has won three games in a row, these have all come at home and to the bottom feeders of the PAC12.

Colorado is white-hot right now. They have won three-straight games against Oregon State, USC, and UCLA and this will be senior night for the Buffaloes. Why is this important? Colorado has five seniors in its rotation, including star point guard McKinley Wright who has given everything to this organization. Colorado will want to go out with a bang.

Ending on a High Note
Arizona State ends its season with the dreaded mile-high trip of taking on Colorado and Utah back-to-back. Teams tend to struggle in the first leg as they are just getting used to the altitude. It should also be noted that while Arizona State has won three straight and is 10-11 overall, they have just two wins inside the KenPom top 100. The Sun Devils are just 5-16 ATS and 2-4 ATS on the road.
This is the 76th ranked offense on KenPom. They are seventh in turnover rate, 170th in three-point percentage, and 98th in free-throw percentage. On defense, this is the 140th ranked unit. They are 57th in turnovers forced, 175th in two-point percentage allowed, and 108th in block rate.

Remy Martin is the star of this team. He gives the Sun Devils 21.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. Alonzo Verge Jr. contributes 12.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. Marcus Bagley, who returns from injury this game, adds 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds.

Senior Night
I expect the Buffaloes to come out extremely energized for this one. They have five seniors in their normal rotation, including McKinley Wright who may have his jersey retired one day. At home, Colorado averages 79.2 points per game and allows just 64.2. This is one of the many reasons why they are 10-1 overall at home and 8-3 ATS.
Analytically, this team is beautiful. According to KenPom, Colorado has the 17th ranked offense. They are 73rd in field goal percentage, 56th in turnover rate, 49th in three-point percentage, and first in free-throw percentage. On defense, this is the 27th ranked unit. They are 61st in field goal percentage, 86th in rebounding, 61st in two-point defense, and 31st in non-steal turnover percentage.

To no surprise, McKinley Wright leads the Buffaloes with 15 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. Jeriah Horne contributes 11.5 points on 45% three-point shooting and Evan Battey adds 10 points with 5.2 rebounds.

The No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners will look to pull off the regular season sweep over the archrival No. 15 Texas Longhorns on Thursday night in a huge Big 12 matchup in Norman. Oklahoma is struggling through its first three-game losing streak of the season after dropping a 79-75 contest to the No. 17 Oklahoma State Cowboys on Monday as a 2.5-point road favorite to fall to 14-8 overall (9-7 Big 12). Texas enters at 15-7 (9-6 Big 12) following a comfortable 81-67 road win over the Iowa State Cyclones as a 12-point favorite on Tuesday.

These teams met back on January 26, with Oklahoma prevailing in a wild 80-79 game as a three-point underdog in Austin to take a 49-37 all-time lead in the rivalry series.

Texas takes care of buisness in Ames
The Longhorns haven't exactly been the most consistent team this season, but had little trouble with last-place Iowa State earlier this week and remain in position to get a first-round bye in the Big 12 Tournament. Texas went on an extended 21-2 run in the first half to take a 10-point advantage into the break, and continued to roll offensively with 43 points in the second as Iowa State never got closer than within nine.

Four Longhorns had at least 12 points, led by Kai Jones with 17 and eight rebounds off the bench on an efficient 4/7 shooting performance. The Longhorns rolled offensively shooting 51% from the field and 20/23 from the free throw line to make up for turning the ball over 18 times.

“I’m happy for him that he’s kind of coming to this realization of who he can be. He’s really just scratching the surface. We need this type of energy and multiple efforts from him as we go here in March,” head coach Shaka Smart told the Associated Press regarding Jones' performance.

It has not been a good season for Texas against the spread at 8-13-1, as the Iowa State cover was the Longhorns' first in a span of four games. Overs are a strong 14-8 for the Longhorns so far, with three of their last four games going over the betting total.

The Longhorns are in the top 100 nationally in scoring at 75.1 points per game on shooting splits of 52.4% from two and 34.4% from three. Opponents are putting up 68.5 points per game against Texas while shooting 45.1% from two, a top 30 mark in the country, and 32.1% from beyond the arc.

Andrew Jones leans a balanced Texas offense with 14.8 points per game, with six other Longhorns averaging at least 8.1 points per contest. Matt Coleman III is having a nice season at 12.8 points and a team-high 4.4 assists per game, while Courtney Ramey is at 13.7 points per contest while shooting 42.9% from three.

The Longhorns had a full roster available last game and don't expect to have any absences for Thursday's showdown.

Oklahoma swept by in-state rival
A scheduling oddity led to Oklahoma playing two Bedlam games in a span of 48 hours, and the Sooners are reeling after dropping both. Oklahoma got off to a fast start with a 25-16 lead early on Monday, but crumbled defensively in the second as Oklahoma State put up 44 points with Cade Cunningham pouring in 13 over the final 10 minutes including a go-ahead layup with 6:45 left.

Brady Manek had one of his best games this season with 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Austin Reaves added 19 points and four assists. Oklahoma was undone on the defensive end, as the Cowboys shot 52.9% from the field and made 27 trips to the free throw line.

“The main message is keep fighting, stay mentally locked in and just honestly listen to coach Krug (Lon Kruger),” Reaves said to the Associated Press. “That’s really the main thing, and that’s what we will get back and do.”

Oklahoma has a mark of 12-10 against the spread this season, but has failed to cover in each of its last four games including a bad loss to Kansas State as a 10-point favorite last week. Overs are 10-12 for the Sooners after the pair of games against Oklahoma State both went over the betting total.

The Sooners are 79th nationally in scoring offense at 75.6 points per game on shooting splits of 50.9% from two and 33.5% from beyond the arc. Opponents are scoring 69.1 points per game against the Sooners while shooting 45.6% from two, a top 50 mark in the country, and 35.4% from three.

Reaves has been one of the Big 12's most prolific playmakers on offense with an average of 17.6 points and 5.1 assists per game. De'Vion Harmon has added 13 points per game, while Umoja Gibson has put in 10.5 points per contest while shooting 43.9% from three.

The Sooners don't expect to have any absences or injuries for Thursday's rivalry game.
