We need a button to tell someone we "like" something? Or is this just to make people feel better to get an affirmation? I don't get why anyone needs something like this or feel it's some badge of honor. But OK. let's party....I guess.

Being nice isn’t a bad thing. And there is nothing wrong with appreciating someone for something they posted if you “Like” it

And hey, if I can make someone feel better every day, I’ll gladly do it!

I could go on and on about the benefits of a like button but based on your comment, I feel like I would just be wasting my time 🤷‍♂️

Not at all. Let's hear them. I just question why someone needs something like that to "feel better". I make comments because I want to actively engage with people. I simply don't need that kind of affirmation. If others do, more power to them. I feel pretty good about myself in general and don't need any type of affirmation to feel that way.

If someone doesn't use a "like" button when they are conversing with me, I don't assume they're not nice. I happen to think people that actively engage with me are interested in the topic we are discussing and find that stimulating and I appreciate it.

Well that’s you. Others don’t all feel like that. I have been moderating gambling forums for 25 years and I know for a fact that people appreciate it and enjoy having it. It keeps people engaged and it keeps them posting. Some people do not want to comment in peoples threads every day but if they can do a drive by and drop a like, it lets that person know they are not here talking to themself every day and people do appreciate them posting plays. If someone buys a service and posts it every day, many of them wonder if people care or if they should keep posting. When they see 20 likes, they know people are watching and looking forward to the plays every day

These forums are not what they once were and many people ask often if they should bother posting things. They wouldn’t ask those questions if they got the likes to let them know. We also have very few who post plays daily. Many post day after day after day with no other responses in their thread. They all slowly disappear and I have asked many why. They all say because they got sick of talking to themself and it didn’t seem like anyone really cared, so they said why am I wasting my time doing it.

This is a forum. Forums need posters and posters are encouraged to come back and post another day if they see likes and know people appreciate them stopping by to do it

You may not get it or care but there is a reason why almost every forum has it. There are benefits and most people who post personal or service plays like it. We had it here but it was not working right so freak ditched it

That's fine but quite frankly, a million likes aren't going to do anything for me if no one ever responds to a comment I made (nor do I think it will keep anyone stimulated to keep posting or staying on a forum). Length of time moderating on a forum really doesn't mean anything and pointing out that people appreciate likes is not a fact. I would much rather have an actual reply and a discussion (that's why most people post things in the first place). I'm actually one of the few that post a record when I list plays. I can't recall a single person ever commenting to me despite having a fairly good record in baseball. Do I care? Nope. And I try to give out good picks because I figure someone's looking at them and do care if I lose.

I have some friends that get so caught up with people on Facebook and other sites because they have "x" amount of followers. I asked a few why they care so much, to which they replied....because they are an "influencer". I just smiled and asked why that person's opinion is any more valuable than the "average Joe" on the street? Popularity has never been a gauge in my book that an opinion is any more valuable. However, I will look at someone if they are a solid handicapper with a proven (documented) track record. I'm pretty sure that's why Freak insists on anyone being a noted handicapper on the site that they must keep accurate records.

If you enjoy it and feel others do, that's great.

Sorry wasn't aware of that. Then to paraphrase....What typically happens when someone doesn't receive a like (for those that look at it as a priority), is their self esteem goes out the window. And that's typically because it's more about conforming than being creative and innovative with our thoughts. I prefer people to share what makes them different rather than exactly the same.

Look at that Likes got a conversation going.

Anyway, there will be those that use it and those that don't. Either way it's back for anyone to use or not !

Accuracyplease I totally get where you're coming from, I'm glad your a member that takes part in conversation. Keep it coming. We need more people that will engage rather than be hiding like they are in a witness protection program!

If someone is posting plays its a good way to know you "like" them....otherwise why would someone keep posting plays if no one "llkes" them?

Uh because they generally love analyzing games and don't have such low self esteem that they need to have an affirmation from an anonymous poster that they don't know to feel good about themselves. Anyone can see the views of their posts so clearly they know if people are looking at them or not. Here's a thought...maybe people shouldn't be so lazy and actually converse with others? I think that's ultimately the goal that Freak wants.

And I should add bm10, should I care if I go 10-0 on selections if no one "likes" them? Hell, might be a room of Golden State Warrior fans that are just pissed because I'm hitting games by selecting their opponents. This conformity thing you guys have going here just cracks me up. The most important thing is outcome not popularity.

Of course I reported the post. I'd like Freak to be aware of a mod that uses these techniques (doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with it since he wants to encourage conversation and apparently you don't). No one laughed at anyone (it's just again, a little tangent you seem to want to get into because you can't directly address comments). And I explained the "self esteem" comment using your own words. Perhaps you should get over it.

It's a fn like button, people asked for it back, I worked to get it fixed and back. It's a feature of nearly every forum out there.

It has nothing to do with self esteem or anything of the sort. It's a feature to say hey, thanks for posting that handicapper or hey I like that play or reasoning or just a way to say hi thanks for being here.

Enough is Enough. I have enough on my plate and this is not one of them I need to deal with........................

I am confused. What does self-esteem have to do with this? I am talking about plays in paid professionals. They aren’t my picks. I don’t care if anyone likes the pick I just want to know if people like me posting them. Otherwise, I won’t waste my time.

Bingo. Well said, bm10. I agree. Sure i 'like' when ppl post plays, but im not going to lessen its worth by liking every post. Often times, I Like a post because it is a play from a particular capper that i repect, and doesnt get posted as frequently (say a Spreitzer 7☆ or Lee Sterling 40 Unit Play - hint hint) 😁 What i do NOT like is ppl that hate on the Like button. He is our friend. Really just a way of saying thanks, in my opinion.
