Let's get straight to the action....
1. USC
They had the week off and play a Thursday night game at Oregon St next. In looking at their remaining schedule, who's going to beat them. Quick answer.... Nobody...
2. Oklahoma
They also had the week off and their next game is vs TCU. They will be heavily favored and we will see how good this TCU squad really is. TCU has only given up 31 points this year. That will change this coming Saturday.
3. LSU
They move up 1 spot after a gutty road victory at a tough road venue vs a team that was ranked top 10 in the AP and USA Today. They have a much easier game at home next Saturday vs MS St. Two weeks after that we see how for real they are at Florida.
4. BYU
Ok so they beat Wyoming 44-0 and now have back to back shut outs. They also move up 1 spot in my poll. I know you're not a believer of my ranking of them, but I am telling you this team is going to spoil the party when it's all said and done. They are off next week and go on the road to Utah St. By the time they play that game they will be in the top 10 in the AP and USA Today polls.
5. Georgia
They move up 2 spots this week after a nice win at Arizona State. The real test comes this Saturday when they host Alabama in prime time once again. The score against ASU was nowhere near the ass beating they gave the Sun Devils.
6. Alabama
They move up 3 spots and it sets up a 5 vs 6 matchup in the poll. A total massacre at Arkansas and I can't wait for the match up against Georgia next week at 745PM on ESPN.
7. Florida
Gators debut in the top 10 after a nice win at Tennessee. I am still not a big believer of the Gators as everyone else is, however I have to give them credit. They should be favored by 25+ over Mississippi next week in another ho hum type of game.
8. Missouri
Dropping 5 spots. Did they lose? No... They beat Buffalo 42-21 favored by 33 1/2 points. Lots of errors in this game in which they should have routed Buffalo. With a bye week coming up they had no reason to not let it loose. Style points mean a lot to me and when you only beat a MAC school at home by 21 you lose style points with me. I still expect big things down the road but this to me was an ugly win. They face Nebraska in two weeks.
9. Texas
Drops 3 spots due to superior play by other teams that moved up. An easy win this week over Rice as expected at home. They have Arkansas at home next week in which they should be favored by 24 or more. If they are anything less than 24 bet the house on Texas.
10. Wisconsin
They drop 2 spots same reason Texas did and they had the week off. As I stated last week I have been looking forward to their next game at Michigan. If Wisconsin is favored by anything less than 10, bet the house on the Badgers. I said it last week, I am saying it again, they are going to kick Michigan's ass !!!
Dropping out this week:
Clemson a 54-0 winner over SC St. I hate to drop them out but I can't see them beating any of my top 10 at this point.
Now on to my commentary...
Recap from last report:
Last week I said BYU would beat Wyoming by 50, ok so I was wrong they beat them by 44. They covered easily nonetheless.
I also said don't go betting Ohio St against Troy, Ohio State won but as I predicted they didn't cover.
Was it really no surprise East Carolina lost? WVA hasn't looked good at all, VATech hasn't looked like the usual VATech either, and after needing a late minute rally at Tulane. Why did I use ECU in a teaser? They along with Auburn +2.5 were my only losers which of course you would know if you visited the Selections Central area and my ongoing battle with the bookmakers in Gambling with Freak. I gave you winners that were underdogs that won games SU including Navy, Ball St, and Vanderbilt. I also hit my SEC teaser of the month with GA and Auburn.
But enough about me giving you winning selections, what about Ball St, they finally get a win vs a Big 10 school in their 20th try. Congrats to the boys from Muncie. They are now 4-0 overall.
A tip of the hat to the Wofford Terriers they gave South Carolina all they could handle in a 23-13 loss which was 16-13 late in the 4th qtr. The ole ball coach had a hangover after their loss to Georgia the week before or were they looking ahead to powerhouse UAB?
This week I give two thumbs down to the Big 10. I mean let's get real...
Northwestern at home beats Ohio 16-8
Purdue at home beats Central Michigan 32-25
Iowa loses at Pittsburgh 21-20
Ohio St at home beats Troy 28-10
Indiana loses at home to Ball St 42-20
Those are all ugly results. Sure Michigan St beat Notre Dame by 16, but that was an ugly win. Minnesota beat FL Atlantic 37-3 umm ok weren't they supposed to anyway? Oh yea Penn St beat Temple 45-3 again... another weren't they supposed to anyway.
Michigan is a sorry team, and the only team left with a chance to really do something this year is Wisconsin and if perhaps Ohio St if they get healthy. Forget Illinois....
Well that's it for this week, thanks for reading and feel free to share your thoughts.
