College Football Action!
Northwestern vs Bowling Green. POD is on Bowling Green (-6). BG's offense will light it up and the defense will hold the nation's 68th ranked offense (BG has the #3) in the country to only a few scores. This is one of my favorite picks in the bowl season.
Enjoy the day everyone!

NHL Away team goals +5.5 -1.1
A lot of dominant road teams playing weaker oponents. And the good home teams are playing stiff tight checking defensive clubs. +5.5 should be enough to cover

New Jersey Devils to have the 1st power play in the game -125 (Olympic)
Scorpion:
I'm on New Jersey to have the 1st POWER PLAY, NOT necessarily the first power GOAL. I'm basing this on pure stats, Jersey just doesn't give up many penalties and generally, the get more power plays than the Isles, add in a little home refereeing and I think you have a winner at a cheap price. [ December 26, 2003, 01:02 PM: Message edited by: dwaynedd ]

Northwestern +7 over Bowling Green If your playing the Falcons here you had better play it right now and lay the 7 points as this game is definitely not moving down, in fact, by game time, expect to see a 7½ or 8 as the whole country is on the chalk here. That's a huge concern. Many concerns surround the Wildcats and that has every tout in the nation calling the Falcons an easy win here. Most notably is the Wildcats passing game which is horrible and has been all year long. The passing game ranks 99th in the nation, however, they do have a rock solid ground game which they will utilize in a big way today. Their defense isn't very good and in order to keep this game close, or even win it, they are going to have to keep their defense off the field and the only way they accomplish that is running the rock. Expect a heavy dose of Jason White left, Jason White right, and Jason White up the middle. The Wildcats finished the season at 6-6 and finished .500 for the first time since the 2000 season. By doing so, they received a bowl bid in this game in favor of Northern Illinois, who was snubbed by the bowl committee despite finishing 10-2. Northern Illinois won games this season over Maryland, Alabama and Iowa State, but Northwestern's home win over Wisconsin apparently held more weight with the bowl gurus. Anyway, Northwestern finished the season on a 4-2 run with their four wins coming over Illinios (37-20 as -3 point favs), Penn State (17-7 as +5½ point dogs), Wisconsin (16-7 as +10 point dogs) and Indiana (37-31 as -3½ point chalks). The two losses were against Purdue (34-14 as +18 point dogs) and Michigan (41-10 as +17 point dogs). There are some very decent offensive teams in that group so perhaps the Wildcats numbers aren't as bad as we are being led to believe. One note of importance heading into this game is the fact that NW's coaching staff has been depleted as their wide receivers coach, linebackers/defensive line coach and running backs coach all left for Eastern Michigan to fill coaching positions for next season. That has been well documented and it's another reason not many are giving the Wildcats a chance in hell here. Bowling Green comes off a fine season after going 10-3. The offense revolves around QB Josh Harris, who finished the season as the 23rd rated QB in the land and this Falcon team had wins over both Purdue and Northern Illinois this year. Next question is why did this line come out so low? It opened at 6 and has already been bet up to 7 and in some places more. Surely, the oddmakers could have posted a 7½ to open here and would have received just as much Bowling Green money. You cannot ignore these signs and it's for that reason, along with the fact that you won't find a single person backing the dog here, that I urge you to either play the Wildcats or lay off. Play Northwestern +7 (Risking 1.65 units to win 1.5) [ December 26, 2003, 12:42 PM: Message edited by: Ranger ]

Ranger, good info. The line move in this one has been quite interesting...opened up at 8 and moved down all the way to -6 for BG. I have a large wager on BG as I think they are by far the better team. Watch BG get a lead early and Northwestern's horrible passing game try to catch up.
Enjoy the game!

Oh, one more thing on that BG/N'Western game. Just because the betting public doesn't have a clue (Big 10 team must be better than any MAC team right???) on which is the better team today, doesn't mean you shouldn't place a wager on BG.
Good luck everyone!

Valid points Seavike. Us Texans have to stick together, so lets say we agree to disagree on this one.

Scorekeeper: My last pick on 12/23 was a push with New York Knicks +6. My score should be -5.98.
My pick today is in the NBA and I am taking the Minnesota Timberwolves +3 (Bowman)
Update: I lost tonight so NOW my score is -7.08 [ December 27, 2003, 01:21 AM: Message edited by: cisco ]
