NHL
New Jersey -.5 -115
Devils had great success against the Islanders in the past. They lost to them last week in overtime, I don t see them losing two in a row to the Islanders. Great value here.

TB -.5 -1.15
The lightning are much stronger at home than the ducks are on the road. Both teams struggling, so I like the home team which is looking to get an easy win.

Alamo Bowl @ San Antonio, Texas. (9:00 PM)
Michigan St +1.30 over Nebraska @Intertops
Nebraska is playing in a record 35th consecutive bowl game, but enter this game without their Head Coach Frank Solich, who was fired after guiding the team to a 9-3 record. Then there's the Cornhuskers offense, specifically the passing game, or lack there of. This team has the nations worst QB in Jamal Lord. Their passing game is non-existent, ranking 115th out of 117 teams with a 105 ypg average. The Cornhuskers have a decent running game, however, with the defense focusing on the run, knowing they can only run, for Michigan St, it's like having the opositions playbook in your dressing room. Spartans had a tough schedule.
Michigan State ended the regular season on a positive note, as they pounded Penn State 41-10. It was a much needed win as the Spartans had lost their previous three games with losses coming at Wisconsin, Ohio State, 33-23, and Michigan. Prior to that three game losing streak, Michigan State had won five in a row which included wins over Notre Dame, Iowa and Minnesota. Spartans are well coached, well prepared and have a very good offensive attack. Cornhuskers are going to attempt to run the ball down the throat of the Spartans, however, a one dimensional offense can't get our endorsement here. Nebraska got smoked by both Kansas St and Texas late in the season and that's what happens when well coached teams, not to mention talented ones too, know exactly what your game plan is.

This should be a tightly contested game, so I will state the obvious first...If you are interested in Michigan St., go find the 3.5 and if Nebraska, lay the 3.
As for trying to make a case for either side, Nebraska is obviously a run based team and will more than likely try to use the option often against the Mich. St. defense. If this is successful, along with the other aspects of their running game, the Huskers will be able to control the clock and dictate the game. Two things that I believe you should expect are a strong Nebraska O-Line and an above average defense. Nebraska does have 3 big losses to quality opponents... K St. , Mizzou, and Texas.. two of which are superior to Michigan St and Mizzou being at about the same level. In that game vs. Missouri, Nebraska commited 5 turnovers and were burned on 2 trick plays for touchdowns. If you were to throw that game out, the resume for the Huskers is impressive. On the other side, Michigan St. brings a very good qb in Smoker and will more than likely be trying to answer Nebraska through the air. It is possible that Michigan St. could rack up some good passing yards vs. the Nebraska D, but I expect them to have some trouble moving the ball on the ground. The key to the game will be how well Michigan St will be able to find receivers downfield..if it is an easy time for Smoker, they will be able to open up the run game and compete and possibly win the game. However, not too many teams have had free reign on the Nebraska pass defense and I expect the M St. opportunities to be sporadic.
Expect a close game early, and Nebraska to establish their running game and offensive line as the clock rolls.
Nebraska 31 Mich St. 17

Going with Michigan St +3'
Think that Nebraska won't be all there without Solich. If he was there and this was announced his final game, then different story. However more than likely a lame duck coaching staff, that will at best be marginal.
I think Smoker wants to light it up, no pun intended, and he will if he has time. I look for some screens and end arounds to loosen up the NB defense, after that, it should be smooth sailing.
Michigan St +3' for me!
