Tough to get a read on just how well the Longhorns will respond to playing in this game. They had their sights set on a mich higher bid than this one and after close to a month off, they may not respond well. The 9.5 points being offered up to the Cougars is tempting, however, the total is what has our focus. Cougars don't have a good defense, they have a great one and while the Longhorns were putting up 47 a game, their is no way in hell, they'll put up that many here. Not with a month off and not with the mood they are in. They want to be in this game about as much as Saddam Hussein wants to be in a Baghdad prison. You can't run on the Cougars and passing isn't that easy either. The Longhorns offense is explosive, however, the Cougars know that and they are going to have to run the ball, keep the clock moving, and use long drives to keep that offense off the field. That's easier said than done, however, they, too have a very good offense and have the ability to run the ball. Texas has been susceptible to the run this year, allowing 152.2 ypg on the ground, ranking 59th in the country. However, quietly, the defense was one of the best in the nation this year. The Longhorns are allowing just 327.3 ypg in total offense this season, ranking them 23rd in the nation. Two excellent defenses match up here in what is being billed as an offensive showcase. I love it when the betting public is being persuaded by the media and that's precisely the situation here. Offensive showcase, my ass.
