If you read my comedy post about holding the freaksforum.com bowl then you know what I think about 35 bowl games this year.
Bowl pairings were released today and I just laugh. Look at the match ups in these games. But before I get into that nonsense, whatever happened to the traditional best match ups being held on New Years Day.
Some of you may not even be old enough to remember what it used to be like.
You would wake up at 11AM and the Cotton Bowl was kicking off on CBS.
At 1PM or so the Sugar Bowl was next on ABC
The Rose Bowl kicked off around 430PM on NBC
At 8PM it was the Fiesta Bowl on ABC
At 830PM it was the Orange Bowl on NBC
On New Years Eve it was only the Peach Bowl and the Bluebonnet Bowl usually shown on CBS.
In all there was only 18 bowl games. 7 of which got played as above and there wasn't any other bowl games after the Orange.
Now we have nearly double the bowl games and there's a bunch of shit games between New Years and the National Title game.
Let's examine...
January 9th
The Fight Hunger Bowl BC against Nevada wow BC is 7-5 and gets rewarded with prime time coverage.
January 8th
The Birmingham Bowl
Kentucky 6-6 vs Pitt 7-5
Are you really serious? Why not the you suck ass bowl?
January 7th Cotton Bowl Wow this used to be the lead game in the New Years tradition.
January 6 The GMAC Bowl
Middle Tn 6-6 vs Miami Oh 9-4 Are you serious, a prime time matchup for this BS bowl game. This is a big farce as well.
I am sick of looking at these matchups... 14 teams out of 70 have 6 losses. 18 of the 70 have 5 losses. So 32 of 70 teams have 5 losses or more but yet are rewarded with an extra game, the school gets extra money and exposure. Why?
Yet we can't have a playoff system with 16 teams that would take all of 15 bowl games and would generate more money and interest than the wasted 16 bowl games for these 5 and 6 loss teams to participate. The NCAA sends the wrong message that's it's ok to be 6-6 and have a bad season but yet you can play in a bowl game as a reward.
Greed, Power, Money and more GREED is what it is all about.
What great matchups we would have if we played the BCS rankings into matchups.
#1 Auburn vs #16 Alabama
#2 Oregon vs #15 Nevada
#3 TCU vs #14 Oklahoma St
#4 Stanford vs #13 Virgina Tech
#5 Wisconsin vs #12 Missouri
#6 Ohio St vs #11 Boise St
#7 Oklahoma vs #10 LSU
#8 Arkansas vs #9 Michigan St
Now who wouldn't enjoy these match ups?
I won't even get into the what if match ups in Round 2.
You get the picture, but the NCAA never will.
