Can win but won't:

4 Departing Brian Hernandez Jr. Al Stall Jr. 6-1 I don't think the Illinois Derby was a strong race at all. But has tactical speed and can loom the danger down the stretch. I think he has a slim chance but not as strong as the contenders.

The Contenders to win it:

1 Orb Joel Rosario Shug McGaughey 1-1 After the Derby Race and his big performance the only question I have is: What type of bounce will he have if any and where is he early? We aren't going to have the pace we had in the Derby. Let's face it, that was a crash and burn front end and there is no way we have that here in a field of nine. That's not to say a horse will go out winging, the key word being A.

2 Goldencents Kevin Krigger Doug O'Neill 8-1 I am tossing out the KY Derby race as an aberration. I think we will see the real Goldencents in this one and let's face it he won't be in the back, he will either be on the front end trying to go wire to wire or will be sitting off the speedball if one tries that strategy.

5 Mylute Rosie Napravnik Tom Amoss 5-1 In the last race this one was steadied early and had to come running from the clouds. This one will need to be much closer and can defeat the ML Favorite.

My selection:

My top choice is Golden Cents and the JUICY and I mean JUICY ML odds of 8-1. I expect Orb to get pounded at the windows as if the race was won before it started. I am looking to beat the "monster" and the "hype". While Orb is a super nice horse, I think there is going to be a bounce here. Mylute is another nice one but let's face it the horse hasn't won since December in a 50K optional claimer which was 4 months after it broke it's maiden. This one could be a menace in the Belmont but with a shorter distance to run at here. I'll pass.

A rather disappointing race in the sense that I was right about Orb but didn't come up with the winner. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the winner as I will do today.

The pace in this race was such a 180 from the Derby, in the KY Derby it was crash and burn, in the Preakness it was ran in slo mo. I have no idea why Krigger didn't press the pace and get the horse out front. I am shaking my head on this one and really can't wait to hear what Krigger and O'Neill say about it. This race was over early and you can go back and watch the replay, I'd say the race was over at the half mile point maybe even at the 3/8th's. There was absolutely no pressure and to me it looked like they were strung out from 1st to 4th, it is just absolutely mind numbing to me the tactics used early in this race.

agree totally freak.. very lackluster boring dissapointing race!! like NO ONE ran at all to abilities or normal tactics it was like everyone waiting on someone else and nothing happened. OLD MAN STEVENS said i will take it and WAS OVER at the 1/2 and he knew it ==even said so...KUDOS TO him and OXBOW!!! I sure never envisioned this outcome-- others yes --this one no--overall results very odd race--ON TO THE BELMONT

When you watch the replay and just see the times being ran for the 1/2 it was super slow. Governor Charlie was supposed to be the pace setter of pushing the pace as he has done in his prior races but in this one he was mid pack looking for fillies or something.

The Belmont will bring a lot of fresh shooters and I wouldn't be surprised to see Oxbow and maybe 1 or 2 others if that from the Preakness. Really outside of Oxbow none of the horses from the Preakness should go on to the Belmont.
