Aqueduct - Dave Litfin BEST BET: Dickinson (3rd race) First Race 1.na of the City is an allowance winner going long, and won big around two turns earlier at this meet. Sixth Race 1. Hurry Up Alan 2. Petrocelli 3. Call for the Clock Not thrilled with the post for HURRY UP ALAN, but the off-the-pace type may somehow manage to save some ground early, and his "A" race - dispensed at three distances last fall on dirt - is clearly best among these; claimed from last three, most recently by a hot trainer. PETROCELLI probably found 6 1/2 furlongs too short against the choice last Oct. 31; he is in better form now, climaxed by two peak efforts over the track against open claimers. CALL FOR THE CLOCK is at his absolute best out of the chute on the main track, yet posted a maiden victory on the inner, and seems consistent enough to use in exotics along with infrequent winner SOUTHBEACHSANDY. Seventh Race 1. Market Conduct 2. Persuasive Devil 3. Lehigh Five MARKET CONDUCT has an edge on this group of New York-breds based on a third-place finish in the Sleepy Hollow, and his only subsequent start was a no-chance Remsen from post 12 chasing winning entrymate who capitalized on a gold rail; seems the sort who might benefit from more aggressive handling. PERSUASIVE DEVIL had a busy juvenile season running seven times through the second half of 2014, and has been freshened since a difficult wide middle move to the lead in his first allowance attempt; never out of the money on dirt. LEHIGH FIVE was bet and won like a good thing Jan. 23; has license to like the route, as half-sister Canal Six won an N1x allowance going long at Belmont last fall. Eighth Race 1. Beatle Boots 2. Point Hope 3. Hollywood Angel BEATLE BOOTS trailed for a half-mile while wide, and settled nicely in the stretch to be whittling away at the winner's margin nearing the finish; the impression is that the added real estate should be right up his alley. POINT HOPE has run twice at one mile on fast tracks, each time receiving a Beyer that sets him apart from these; on the other hand, he's drawn several trouble comments at the gate, and showed little when favored for his recent return. HOLLYWOOD ANGEL is probably going for the lead from the rail in his new blinkers; second-time Lasix now, and rates an upgrade if the track seems kind to speed.

SANTA ANITA - BRAD FREE
BEST BET: RACE 3, MISS BOOM BOOM
FIRST RACE SUMMER VEIL drops in class and stretches to two turns in a maiden-30 route she figures to control on the front end. The only pace rival is the filly on the rail, from the same stable. Seems unlikely they would go head-and-head. ‘VEIL can be gone up front. If she falters, 11-start maiden ZIPPINAROUNDTOWN might be along in time. A four-time runner-up, ‘ZIPPIN added blinkers last time but folded after racing too close to the pace. Blinkers off, jockey switch to Flavien Prat, she will put in her usual grinding rally. SCATAJAWEA is the aforementioned front-runner that is the only apparent pace rival for the top choice. Both are trained by Mike Puype. SCATAJAWEA is running long for the first time. She will either set the pace, or press.
SECOND RACE This $12.5k claiming race for non-winners of two is a good spot to take a shot with a shipper from Northern California. DIAMANTE MOBILE finished a creditable second last time and was claimed by Billy Morey. His first-off-the-claim stats in Northern California are super: 37 percent (91 for 245) the past five years. Morey is particularly effective “f.o.c.” route to sprint: five of his last nine. The locals are modest; this is a good spot for a shipper. QUAY FACTOR has broken slowly all four starts. She somehow managed to win her debut, but has not progressed since. She takes one final drop to the bottom. She does have some speed, but has been compromised by slow starts. ALICE ROADTRAIN drops from open $8k claiming, while cutting back to a sprint. Her recent speed figures fit in this soft sprint. KATERRIFIC cruised as the odds-on favorite in a maiden-20. She might be ranked too low.
THIRD RACE MISS BOOM BOOM is likely to be favored in this maiden-40 starter allowance, and she is likely to win. Her form improved last fall in the Midwest when stretched to two turns; her California debut was a special-weight romp. Eligible to this condition because she ran for a $30k claim tag in her debut, the lightly raced filly handles either turf and dirt, has a versatile running style, and is still on her way up. CARRICK BAY missed by a neck against slightly easier, though that race produced a pair of next-out winners. ‘BAY tried this condition three times last year without success, but her most-recent start suggests she is an improved filly. SIDEPOCKET RUN broke slowly from the rail last time as the odds-on favorite in a dirt sprint at this class level, and could only rally into third. Not a good trip, not a good effort. However, this is her first turf route since she changed trainers.
FOURTH RACE TRAWEEK is the “now” horse in this $8k claiming sprint. He finished second last out in his first start since being claimed by trainer Javier Sierra, first start in two months. The veteran that beat him (Nextdoorneighbor) returned to win a $14-16k claiming race, then finish a close third last weekend in a $25k claiming sprint. TRAWEEK is not a win type (3-for-38), but his current form is the best in the field. PEACENIK returns from a four-month layoff and drops to the bottom for trainer Bill Spawr. PEACENIK won a similar low-level claiming race last winter for Spawr coming back from a layoff. Same pattern this time. The 11-for-52 veteran has won more than his share. ZIPPINGAROUNDTOWN is speed on the rail, with perhaps only one option. He’ll have to send. He’ll be pressured by BOB CONSULTATION and others.
FIFTH RACE TWENTYTWENTYVISION looked good winning a special-weight route in only his second start; the gelding is the choice to win right back as he moves into allowance company. A sibling to multiple stakes winners Alphie’s Bet and Unusual Heatwave, ‘TWENTYTWENTY has tactical speed, a versatile style, and a score to settle with LOGAN’S MOON. The latter defeated the top choice by five lengths when they met Jan. 4; ‘MOON subsequently finished second in a fast allowance sprint. Two turns is something new. No reason he cannot stay a mile and a sixteenth. SAMMY MANDEVILLE ran the best race of his career last out, runner-up by a neck with a 96 Beyer. He will finish. The horse that defeated him in the N1X (Catch a Flight) is scheduled to start as a longshot on Saturday in the Santa Anita Handicap. LUCKBOX SAM pressed a fast pace and kept running last time in a N1X for California-breds. Win or lose, ‘SAM will keep the pace honest.
SIXTH RACE A solid runner-up finish debut by YOUNG AND HUNGRY stamps the gelding as the horse to beat in an interesting maiden turf sprint. The gelding missed by only a head; maidens trained by Tom Proctor typically improve second out. But the second-start maiden faces a host of good prospects making respective debuts. TIZZING is a Tiznow sibling to G3 winner Meteore, making his debut with a string of sharp works for trainer Richard Mandella, whose debut winners on the hill include Humoristica ($19.40) this meet, Quiet Force ($57.80) two winters ago, Mr. Make Believe ($26) and Timezone ($8.80). That’s four debut winners for Mandella from 16 first-time starters on the hill the past five years. LANTZMAN is a Candy Ride first-timer making his debut for trainer John Sadler. Solid workout pattern. FOREVERLY also has sharp works and a top pedigree that has the late Bill Currin written all over it. Currin trained the colt’s G1-winning sire Stormello, and the colt’s graded stakes-winning sibling Memorette. FOREVERLY has a solid workout pattern for trainer Cliff Sise. Interesting race.
SEVENTH RACE Runner-up in successive $200k Calbred stakes, HEAT THE ROCKS drops to Calbred N1X and shortens to a sprint. She ran well two sprints last fall, and enters as the “class” of the field. ‘ROCKS is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, who also entered sharp debut winner ALWAZABRIDESMAID. The latter dueled through a strong pace and came away first time out. It’s always a challenge first time vs. winners, but it was a flashy win. LOST BUS showed much promise last summer, winning her debut and placing in successive stakes. First start since August, she runs well fresh. SHEER PLEASURE cuts back to a sprint, adds blinkers, and is reunited with the rider that won on her first time out. GRAND YODELER is 3-for-4 and likely to set/press the pace breaking from the rail.
EIGHTH RACE Runner-up last out in a similar claiming turf sprint, FIGHTING ON has just enough speed to be forwardly placed in a race that is conspicuously void of speed. The gelding should be on or near the lead, and likely will get first run. ZIMMER is a 9-year-old making his first start since August. He runs well fresh, is a two-time winner on the hill, and returns with a good recent work pattern. JOMELO will roll late, while longshot AERIAL ARTIST is probably outclassed, but likely to set the pace in a race otherwise void of speed. With only one published workout since his most recent start Jan. 9, it is hard to believe he is fit enough for this. It’s a pace play, nothing more. He probably will be swallowed in the lane.
NINTH RACE The nine-race card ends with a maiden-20 in which COMEALONGWITHME is the tepid choice. This is her first time at the bottom level and first start since moving to trainer Mike Puype. However, it is uncertain if she can be effective on dirt. Ten of her 11 starts have been on synthetic or turf; her only dirt start was distant fourth. L X SUNRISE, runner-up 7 of 12, misfired last time, but her half-length loss two back makes her a contender. HAPPY’S GOLDEN GAL finished a creditable fourth in her debut at five and a half furlongs. She benefits from the stretch-out to seven. Kind of an ugly race, actually.

Walker Group
Gulfstream Race 4 # 5 AMALUNA 5/2 # 1 JILL'S COMPRISE 3/1 # 2 ROSIE'S FAITH 7/2
I've got to go with AMALUNA. Boasts formidable Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when put alongside the rest of this group of horses. Estevez has her trained solidly to break swiftly out of the gate. Has a strong shot for this race if you like back class. JILL'S COMPRISE - Should be given consideration based on the solid speed figure garnered in the last race. ROSIE'S FAITH - With a solid 57 speed figure last time out, will surely be a factor in this outing.
