Northwestern @ UNLV<P> I am backing the wildcats here they return 10 starters on an offense that averaged 36.8 points a game and 467.9 yards a game last year, they have a Heisman hopeful in Damien Anderson who rushed for over 2000 yards last year and Kustok a very talented QB has 3 very solid recievers in Simmons, Schweighardt and Patrick. <P> UNLV was very effective in stopping the Arkansas offense last week but it isn't hard to stop a team that was completely one dimensional, all they had to do was line up for the run not one of the Arkansas QB's could complete a pass. They will not have that luxury here if they stop Anderson then you have 3 recievers to go to.<P> I look for UNLV to play better this week but just don't think it will be enough to keep up with the 1-2 punch that the Wildcat offense can throw at you if you stop one they have the other and they throw it at you so fast you don't have time to get get set, I look for the UNLV defense to have their hands on their hips and tongues hanging out by the end of the second quarter and they will still be reeling in the second half trying to stop the runaway train that is the Northwestern offense!<P> On a side note I really think that the team will rally around the tragedy that they have had to live through and take a let's win one for Rashidi attitude.<P> Play Northwestern -3<BR>

Giants Rockies under 13.5<BR>Lots of stats to support this one.<P>Chacon is pitching good - only allowed more than 4 runs once in last 10 starts. That's impressive for a Rockie's pitcher.<P>more trends....<BR>The last eight meetings between Giants/Rockies have gone under.<BR>The under is 7-3 in the Giants last 10 games.<BR>The under is 8-2 in Chacon's last 10 starts.<BR>The under is 8-2 in the Rockies last 10 games.<BR>The under is 16-3 in the Rockies last 19 at home.<BR>

I seem to be the lone bettor in the wilderness (so why aren't I getting more points?!?!), but I like UNLV in this spot. Yes, Arkansas' offense is anemic, but I think UNLV's defense made it look a bit more anemic than it really is. In other words, I think the Rebels D is pretty solid. It has to be to keep UNLV from getting into a scoring contest with NW. I think it will be good enough to do that. Furthermore, Jason Thomas, the UNLV QB, looked putrid last week, but don't expect that to last. The kid's a talent and I think he went into the Arkansas game expecting the game to come to him instead of vice versa. If he's the athlete I think he is, he'll correct that this week. As for NW, I think the Wildcats' defense, which allowed more than 400 points last season and an average of more than 400 yards per game, is VERY suspect. I don't think you allow an offense to get rolling at its home stadium or you're asking for big trouble. I expect UNLV's veteran head coach John Robinson to have Jason Thomas' head in the game and the UNLV offense to light it up early. I like the matchup of UNLV's offense against NW's defense better than vice versa. I think that's my bottom line. NW/UNLV Under 57<P>Low scoring battle. UNLV played a 14-10 game last week, and NW content to just run over the Rebels. Clock just rolls on.<P>

A's(Hiljus) -250<BR>Erik Hiljus will make his eighth start for Oakland. Hiljus faced the Devil Rays last Saturday and allowed three runs and five hits in five innings for his second victory of the year. The struggling Bryan Rekar will get the ball for Tampa Bay. Rekar is winless in his last eight starts and has lost five straight decisions.<P>In his last start on Friday, Rekar was shelled for eight runs and nine hits in six innings in a 9-5 defeat to Oakland.<BR>

Not for contrairian reasons but I think that # is too low.
