The Boise State Broncos will travel to the Viejas Arena on Thursday night for the first game of a two-game set to close the season against the 22nd-ranked San Diego State Aztecs in a Mountain West Conference matchup. The Broncos are the top team in the MWC with an 18-4 and a 14-3 conference record. They are on a four-game winning streak after defeating the Utah State Aggies 81-77 on Friday night. The Aztecs are second in the MWC with a 17-4 record and an 11-3 conference record. They are on an eight-game winning streak after going on the road and defeating the Fresno State Bulldogs 75-57 on Saturday.

The Broncos could clinch the conference with a win and a loss by Colorado State so this could be an important game. Let’s take a deeper dive into the matchup to decide where we should place our wagers.

Seniority Matters
The Boise State Broncos have depended on senior guard Derrick Alston Jr to lead the offense this year. He is averaging 17.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 steals in 32 minutes per game. He’s shooting 46.7 percent from the field, 42.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 85.1 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Aggies, Alston played 32 minutes and finished with 23 points, one rebound, two assists, and three turnovers. If he can figure out a way to put the cut down on the turnovers while shooting like he did, the Broncos should pull off the upset.

The Boise State Broncos have been average on defense this season as they are giving up 65 points per game. In their last game against the Utah State Aggies, they allowed 81 points on 33-of-66 (50 percent) from the floor, 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from the three-point line, and just 11 free-throws. If they can limit the amount of open shots made against them, they will be even better and get back in the win column.

Forward Thinking
The Aztecs are led on the scoring side by senior forward Matt Mitchell. On the season he is averaging 15.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, two assists,, and 1.4 steals in 28.2 minutes of action. He is shooting well for a bigger guy as he is 45.8 percent from the floor, 38.7 percent from the three, and 82.4 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Bulldogs, Mitchell played 35 minutes and finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals. If he can figure out how to increase his shooting a little more then it will be really impactful for San Diego State.
San Diego State has been impressive on the defensive side of the court this season as they are allowing 59.8 points a night. In their last game over the Fresno State Bulldogs, they gave up 57 points on 22-of-51 (43.1 percent) from the floor, 5-of-20 (25 percent) from beyond the arc, and 16 free-throws. If the Aztecs can continue to limit the amount of fouls they commit, they will be in better shape.

Ohio State was dealt their first loss in nearly a month last weekend as Michigan beat them by five. This game was back and forth the whole way as the two teams combined for 179 points. The Buckeyes are 18-5 overall, 12-5 in conference play, 14-8-1 ATS.

The Spartans are catching fire at the perfect time. They are coming off back-to-back impressive wins against Indiana and Illinois. In each of these games, the Spartans were at least six-point underdogs. The Spartans are just 6-9 in conference play, but if they continue to come away with wins against superior teams, they could find themselves in the NCAA Tournament.

Playing Without Kyle Young
News broke earlier today that Kyle Young won't be available for this game due to being in the concussion protocol. This is a huge deal for the Buckeyes as young plays around 3o minutes per game and the effort he gives on both ends of the court is irreplaceable. The Buckeyes essentially use a seven-man rotation so I expect to see a lot more of Seth Towns in this game.
According to KenPom, the Ohio State Buckeyes are third in offensive efficiency. They are 46th in field goal percentage, 11th in ball control, 26th in free-throw attempts, 48th in three-point percentage, and 17th in free-throw percentage. On the defensive side of the ball, this is the 86th ranked unit. They are 115th in effective field goal percentage, 123rd in defensive rebounding, and 85th in two-point percentage. Where they struggle is forcing turnovers as they rank 328th in this area.

E.J. Liddell leads the way for the Buckeyes with 15.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. Duane Washington Jr. contributes 15.6 points on 39% shooting from deep and Justice Sueing adds 10.3 points with 5.7 rebounds.

Don't Stop Believing
Out of nowhere, this Spartans' team has come alive and they are building serious momentum as we get closer to the conference tournament. After losing six of its last eight games, the Spartans have won two straight against Illinois and Indiana. With the 14th ranked strength of schedule, the Spartans are now approaching the bubble for the NCAA Tournament and a win over Ohio State would certainly get them there.
The Spartans have the 82nd ranked offense. While they don't shoot the ball well, they are 84th in rebounding and 90th in free-throw percentage. This team also ranks #1 in the country in assist percentage which is very important as they lack a true point guard. On the defensive side of the ball, the Spartans rank 42nd overall. They are 83rd in field goal percentage, 70th in three-point percentage, and 38th in block rate.

Aaron Henry is the heart and soul of this team. He averages 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Joey Hauser contributes 10.3 points with 6.1 rebounds and Joshua Langford adds 10 points on 38% shooting from deep.

The Northwestern Wildcats will be on the road in a Big 10 battle against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Wildcats had big ambitions as they started the year 6-1 but the Big 10 had different plans as the Wildcats would lose 13 straight games. The Golden Gophers punched their ticket into the top 25 rankings as they started 10-2 but would only win 3 of the next 11 games. The Big 10 is arguably one of the best leagues this season and both of these programs have felt the hardship of it.

The Wildcats have been a little more successful facing the odds as they have earned a record of 8-11 ATS this year along with being 10-9 in favor of the over. The Golden Gophers are 10-13 ATS this season and have posted a record of 12-11 in favor of the under. Both teams are riding a losing streak and will be looking to find some late season momentum, this one is set to be a good one.

Can The Wildcats Look Past 13 Straight Losses
The Northwestern Wildcats were off to a great start at 6-1 with 3 of those wins coming from conference play but since then they have witnessed 13 straight losses due to the rigorous conference. Even though the Wildcats have sprung this huge losing streak they have not been getting blown out of contest, it seems as if they are just missing a piece to their puzzle which could pan out next season. Northwestern only has a -2.9 margin on the year which details how close the contest have been, they have been producing 70.2 points while allowing 73.2 points a game. The Wildcats do a poor job of rebounding the basketball with only 32.4 rebounds a game and only 5.3 of those on the offensive end which does not allow for second chance points often. Along with their poor ability to rebound, they are averaging 18.3 fouls and giving opponents 20.3 free throw attempts per game. The Wildcats are good enough to knock off some big teams in the Big 10 if they pull down boards and limit their fouling, they shown this early in the season when they took down Ohio State.
The Wildcats have been led by Guard Chase Audige who is scoring 12.9 points and pulling down 3.5 rebounds a game. Audige has been huge at times this year but seems to be inconsistent which really hurts the Wildcats. Audige has scored less than 10 points in seven games this season and less than 5 points in four of those games. On the other hand, he has exploded for over 15 points in six contest. The Wildcats tend to keep games close but not when he struggles to put up points, maybe next year he will be a more reliable choice and help lead the Wildcats to victory as he is only a Sophomore. For now if the Wildcats want to pull off this win and a few others they will need to focus on getting a few more boards and limit the opponents attempts at the free throw line.

Getting Back On Track
The Minnesota Golden Gophers were rolling early on at 10-2 as they made their way into the top 25 but have since struggled to put together wins as they are 13-10. The Golden Gophers are scoring 74.3 points a game while getting a huge portion of their offense inside the arc as they are only shooting the at 29.6% from deep. Minnesota is at their strongest when they can speed up the game, they have been shooting the ball 61.4 times a game which is ranked 38th in the country. The part of their offense that may be a huge difference in this contest is their ability to get to the free throw line, they have been shooting an average of 23.1 free throws a game while knocking down 17.3 of those a game. This will vow well for the Golden Gophers as the Wildcats are sending opponents to the line for an average of 20.3 free throws a game. Minnesota is a little better at rebounding the ball with 36.3 rebounds a game but hold an edge on the offensive side as they are pulling down 9.6 of those rebounds on the offensive end.
The Golden Gophers have been held together by the dominating play of Guard Marcus Carr who is scoring 19.0 points and pulling down 3.9 rebounds a game. Carr has been huge for Minnesota as they have only lost two games when he reaches his average at 19.0 points. The problem is that the Golden Gophers have nobody to pick up the slack when he is unable to produce or when he has all the attention. The next leading scorer on the Golden Gophers roster sits around 11 points a game which does not get it done if Carr cannot put up points especially in the Big 10. Minnesota cannot get side tracked by the huge losing streak of Northwestern, the Wildcats could easily pull this one out. If the Golden Gophers want to defend their home court they will need to push the pace and get the Wildcats in foul trouble early, jumping up on the Wildcats early could result in an easy dagger.

The Oregon Ducks will travel to the Maples Pavilion on Thursday night to take on the Stanford Cardinal in a Pac-12 matchup. This is the only time that these programs are facing off against one another this season. The Ducks are third in the Pac-12 as they have a 14-5 record and 9-4 conference record. They are coming off a 72-58 road loss to the USC Trojans on Monday. The Cardinal are fifth in the Pac-12 as they have a 14-9 record and a 10-7 conference record. They are coming off a triple overtime loss on the road against the Washington State Cougars 85-76 on Saturday.

These programs are very close statistically so it will be interesting to see which team can take advantage as they need to continue to play well going towards March Madness. Let’s take a deeper dive in Oregon and Stanford to decide where we should be placing our wagers.

Forward Thinking
The Oregon Ducks have been depending on the production from senior forward Eugene Omoruyi this season. He is averaging 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.4 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 29.8 minutes per game. He is shooting well as he is 46.6 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from the three-point line, and 76.9 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Trojans, Omoruyi played 23 minutes and finished with nine points, three rebounds, an assist, and a block. If he can figure out how to score more in this game, it will be a good look for the Ducks.

The Oregon Ducks have been a decent defense up to this point in the season as they are giving up 66.5 points. In their last game against the USC Trojans, they allowed 72 points on 27-of-55 (49.1 percent) from the floor, 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) from beyond the arc, and 13 free-throw attempts. If they can improve their defense on three-pointers, they should be able to control this game.

Experience Matters
The Stanford Cardinal have depended on senior forward Oscar da Silva to lead the offense this year. He is averaging 18.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, a block, and 0.9 steals in 32.3 minutes per game. He’s shooting incredibly well as he is 58 percent from the field, 30.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.7 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Cougars, da Silva played 28 minutes and finished with 11 points, five rebounds, six assists, a block, and three steals before fouling out. Stanford will be thrilled if they can get another game like that out of him.
The Stanford Cardinal have been a good defense this season as they are giving up 68.7 points per game. In their last game against the Washington State Cougars, they allowed 85 points on 27-of-75 (36 percent) from the floor, 13-of-40 (32.5 percent) from the three-point line, and 23 free-throw. If they want to continue improving defensively, they need to stop allowing easy baskets and the percentage will continue to shoot down.

In what should be a thriller of a matchup in the PAC 12, 17th-ranked USC travels to Colorado to take on the Buffaloes in Boulder. The Trojans sit atop the standings in the conference with a 19-4 overall record and are 13-3 in conference play, looking to further cement themselves as the top team in the conference with a win against a quality opponent. Colorado is still very much a PAC 12 contender, but they have fallen off a bit lately from their hot start at 17-7 and 11-6 in conference play, and could really use a win against a top team like USC to build their tournament resume.

Evan Mobley’s PAC 12 Player of the Year stock continues to rise
There has not been a more dominant player in the PAC 12 this season than USC’s incredible freshman center Evan Mobley. He leads the Trojans in scoring and rebounds, and is a dominant presence on the glass with 70 blocks on the year. Teams have game planned away from Mobley as it is not smart to try and go inside against the freshman, who will likely end up being the Conference Player of the Year, leading the PAC 12’s best team.

Colorado has great size to hopefully be able to challenge Mobley inside on Thursday night. When these teams last met early in the season, he was held to a pedestrian 12 points and seven rebounds in what was one of his worst games of the season, but things have changed quite a bit since then, and he will be on a mission to have a much better game than the last time he went up against CU.

Buffs looking to get back on track and complete season sweep
When these two teams last met back on New Year’s Eve, Colorado looked like the head and shoulders favorite to win the PAC 12, and they showed it with a decisive victory over USC. Since then however, the Buffs have fallen off significantly, and it has been the Trojans who have risen to the top. CU has lost two of their last three and have fallen out of the Top 25, but they still can cement a spot in the NCAA Tournament with a good ending to their season, and defeating USC for the second time this year would really sure up their resume.
The Buffs feature experience and length inside, and their team defense helped hold down Evan Mobley in the last matchup. Senior D’Shawn Schwartz had himself a double-double in the last matchup and dominated on the glass, which not many players have done against the Trojans. If they can shoot the ball as well as they did in the last game and not get dominated inside, they have a good chance to win Thursday and get a big win at home against the Trojans.
