2001 outlook: American League MVP Jason Giambi returns to a strong supporting cast. The starting rotation should stay intact, and the A's are expecting an even bigger year from shortstop Miguel Tejada. The acquisition of leadoff hitter Johnny Damon is huge for a team that was primarily a station-to-station offensive team, and will allow Terrence Long to be used in a more comfortable hitting slot. They experienced good fortune last year getting career years from more than one player, but there's still enough talent here to challenge for a division championship repeat.

Extension talks btw Giambi and A's have hit a snag. If Giambi doesn't get his extension by opening day then negotiations will end until after the World Series. Look for Giambi to put up even better numbers this year just in case he becomes a free agent.<P>ps. The A's won their ninth in a row by beating the White Sox at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Oakland also has taken 12 of the past 13, and has a 15-7 overall mark this spring. It's only spring training, but this team is playing well.

Zito pitched a great game yesterday. A's offense came around and the bullpen didn't blow the lead this time. Zito could win alot of games if he keeps pitching like that.

Well the A's bullpen collapsed against the Mariners yesterday. Like last year, the A's are starting slow and aren't scoring a lot of runs. Home opener tonight against the Angels to kick off a 9 game homestand.

A's snapped a 7 game losing streak last night. The A's bats are starting to heat up and hopefully their pitching will too.

A's still in their losing doldrums. [Linked Image from freaksforum.com] A sparkling 1-8 at home. What will Art Howe do to shake them out of their funk?

A's sweep Yankees, wow. They beat Clemens, Pettite, and Mussina to do this. Cost me some money but glad to see them get on track. Maybe they are starting to play up to the preseason billing.

A's reaching for .500 plateau tonight against the Royals. They've won 13 out last 17 games and are on a 6 game winning streak.

A's looking like an offensive juggernaut last two games even if it was against lowly Devil Rays. Hopefully they can keep it up.
