The Tulsa Golden Hurricane will look to avenge last month's loss to the UCF Golden Knights in their rematch Tuesday night. Although the Big Dance is looking unlikely for both programs, a win here for Tulsa could merit a spot in the NIT.
Tulsa leads the all-time series 12-10, but UCF won the previous meeting, 65-58.
Tulsa Looking to Finish Over .500 Tulsa (10-10, 7-8) got off to an inspiring 8-4 start, that included a win over Houston and an early sweep of Memphis. They almost cracked the AP Top 25 Pool for the first time since 2002, but since then the Golden Hurricane have loss seven of their last nine games, including three straight home games. They average 66.4 points per game, and they rank 43rd in the nation defensively, allowing 64.2 points per game. Tulsa is led by an experienced backcourt. Senior guard Brandon Rachal is leading the team in scoring (14.6) and rebounding (6.7), and he's been the heartbeat of this Golden Hurricane team. Rachal struggled in the previous meeting, but he scored 22 in the big win over Houston.
Rachal's running mates are senior guards Elijah Joiner and Darien Jackson. Joiner leads the team in assists, and has put up double figures in seven of the last nine games, scoring 14 in the loss to UCF. Jackson may be the team's best on-ball defender, and has shown the ability to knock down timely shots. Illinois State transfer Rey Idowu supplies size, averages 8.4 points per game, and keeps these Tulsa guards clean.
Golden Knights Eyeing Sweep of the Golden Hurricane UCF (8-11, 6-10) has have been a mystery this season. After a 3-1 start, that included wins over Auburn, Florida State, and Cincinnati themselves, Central Florida's play has been iffy since American Conference play has begun. UCF had dropped nine of their next eleven games, before winning three of the last four. They're led by senior guards Darius Perry and Brandon Mahan. Perry transferred over from Louisville and has come in and led the team in scoring (14.2) and assists (2.9). He had a career high of 27 and the loss to Wichita State. The Golden Knights will need him to bring the same energy against Tulsa's tough defense. Mahan averages 13.1 points per game, and leads the team in three point percentage (44.3).
Forwards C.J. Walker and Isaiah Adams man the frontcourt. Walker leads the team in rebounding (5.1) and he's scored double figures in each of the last three games. Adams averages 9.2 points per game, and he's comig off of a career high 26 points in the win over Tulane. Sophomore guard Darin Green Jr. is third on the team in scoring (11.4).

A pair of top five teams will clash in a massive Big Ten matchup on Tuesday night when the No. 4 Illinois Fighting Illini visit the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Illinois is in the hunt for a No. 1 seed at 18-6 overall (14-4 Big Ten) after picking up a 74-69 road win over the No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers without star Ayo Dosunmu on Saturday as a 4.5-point underdog. Michigan continued its dominant season with a 73-57 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers as a seven-point road favorite over the weekend, and is now 18-1 overall (13-1 Big Ten).
This is a tight all-time series, with Illinois narrowly leading 64-63 after sweeping a pair of games last season.
Illinois wins without star guard Down its best player, Illinois still managed to get a nice road win on Saturday over Wisconsin and is now in sole possession of second place in the Big Ten standings. The Fighting Illini were in control for much of the game with a lead as large as 14 before Wisconsin's D'Mitrik Trice went supernova by scoring a remarkable 19 points in the final 2:12, but Illinois went 8/8 from the free throw line in the last minute.
Kofi Cockburn led the Fighting Illini with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Andre Curbelo took advantage of his increased opportunity with 17 points and seven rebounds. The Fighting Illini shot a strong 52.1% from the floor and held Wisconsin to 34.8% to help overcome turning the ball over 20 times.
“You just got to make sure you do your job at your end,” head coach Brad Underwood said to the Associated Press. “And we did with our last five field goals and our last 10 free throws – and a lot of prayer. I could not be prouder of this group of guys and their toughness and ability to step up."
Illinois improves to a strong 14-9-1 against the spread and has covered in three of its last four games, with the only loss coming in an upset defeat to Michigan State last week. Overs are also 14-9-1 for the Fighting Illini, and each of their last four games have gone over the betting total.
The Fighting Illini are 17th nationally in scoring at 81.2 points per game on shooting splits of 55.7% from two and 38.1% from three, both of which rank 26th or better. Opponents are scoring 69.2 points per game against Illinois on 45.1% shooting from two and 33.2% from beyond the arc.
Dosunmu is in the National Player of the Year discussion with 21 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game to lead the Fighting Illini. Cockburn is also having a dominant season with an average of 17.7 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game on 66.8% shooting from the field.
The status of Illinois' star will be huge heading into Tuesday, as Dosunmu has missed the last two games with a broken nose and remains day-to-day. JUCO transfer Austin Hutcherson will not play this season due to a back injury. Bench players Edgar Padilla Jr. (undisclosed) and Zach Griffith (foot) have also been out and remain questionable.
Michigan rolls to another dominant victory Coming off a pair of impressive wins over top 10 foes Iowa and Ohio State, Michigan didn't miss a beat on Saturday with a thorough dismantling of Indiana in Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers never led after the 15 minute mark of the first half as Michigan was in command following a 10-0 run, and the lead was extended further in the second as Indiana scored only 10 points in the final 10 minutes.
Franz Wagner led the Wolverines with 21 points on 6/9 shooting from the field, while Isaiah Livers recorded a double-double at 16 points and 10 rebounds. Michigan's defense was dominant in the second half with Indiana shooting just 38.5% from the field for the game, and the Wolverines had a big advantage at the free throw line going 17/19.
“Today’s emphasis was energy,” head coach Juwan Howard said to the Associated Press. “We knew we weren’t going to walk in here and just get a win. I knew Indiana would be prepared and they would come out with great energy. But we emphasized that we had to be ready from the jump ball and they were ready from the jump ball.”
Michigan has been one of the best teams in the nation against the spread at 15-4 including covering in six of its last seven games, with the only defeat coming on a garbage time buzzer beater against Rutgers. Overs are 8-11 for the Wolverines this season, with five of their last six games going under the betting total.
The Wolverines have a strong argument as being the most balanced team in the nation, ranking 38th in scoring offense at 78.8 points per game on shooting splits of 55.4% from two and 39% from three, both of which rank 31st or better. Michigan is 55th in scoring defense at 65.2 points per game allowed with opponents shooting 41.3% from two, the second-best mark in the nation, and 32.7% from beyond the arc.
Freshman Hunter Dickinson is already one of the best players in college basketball, averaging 14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game on 62.1% shooting from the floor. Livers is also having an outstanding year at 14.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game while shooting 45.6% from three, while Mike Smith is one of the top distributors in the Big Ten at 5.2 assists per contest.
Michigan has been fairly healthy all season, and doesn't expect to have any absences for Tuesday's game.

Boise State has two costly losses in a row, and they end the regular season hosting a Fresno State team that has lost three of their last four games.
Fresno State has lost three of four games and after this game against Boise State they end the regular season with a game facing Utah State. In their first matchup with the Broncos this season they were crushed losing 73-51 and then the next game was postponed due to COVID-19. The Bulldogs dropped to 10-10 on the season with their last loss and they are 8-10 in Mountain West Conference play.
Boise State has lost two in a row with both losses being very costly and coming facing a ranked San Diego State team. Now with one game remaining they are tied with Colorado State and Utah State a half game back of SDSU. The Broncos are on the Big Dance bubble at 18-6 and 14-5 in conference play.
Close Win, Close Loss After beating UNLV in a close game Fresno State had another close game with them but lost 68-67. The team shot 45.7% from the floor allowing the Rebels to shoot 47.4% and after having an 8-pt halftime lead they were outscored by nine points in the second half. Two players for the Bulldogs are averaging double figures on the season led by forward Orlando Robinson (14.9 ppg 8.9 rpg), who is also the team’s leading rebounder. He had 15 points on 42.9% shooting and five boards in the last game against UNLV and whole he had 17 points in the loss to Boise State earlier this season he was only 6-16 from the floor. G Deon Stroud (12.2 ppg) went for 12 pojnts in the last game after totaling 35 point in his previous two games. G Isaiah Hill (9.8 ppg) had 19 points in the win over UNLV and in the loss facing them in the last game he had 10 points on 60% shooting.
In the 73-51 loss to Boise State earlier this season they shot a similar FG% (38% to 38.8%), but gave up 15 offensive rebounds while only grabbing six and committed twice as many turnovers (16-8). On the season Fresno State is 3-5 on the road.
Offense Does Not Come Through On the season Boise State has had a solid offense averaging 76.5 ppg but in the two losses to SDSU, which were both on the road, they only scored 66 points and 58 points respectively. In the last game they lost 62-58 where the Broncos played solid D holding the Aztecs to 39.7% shooting but they only shot 35.2%. Guard Derrick Alston Jr. (17.7 ppg) leads three players averaging in double figures and after averaging 26.3 ppg for four games he only had seven points on 16.7% shooting in the last game where he missed eight of his nine 3-pointers. FW Abu Kigab (12 ppg 5.5 rpg) only had one point in the last loss to SDSU while only going for five points in the first game facing them. Guard Marcus Shaver Jr. (10.7 ppg) had 13 points on 50% shooting in the last game after only totaling two points in his previous two games.
Boise State is a perfect 11-0 at home this season.

In a late-season matchup between Big 12 teams, 15th-ranked Texas travels to Ames to take on Iowa State Tuesday night. The Longhorns are in prime position for the postseason at 14-7 overall and 8-6 in the hotly contested Big 12, and are looking for more wins to build momentum into the Big 12 Tournament. The Cyclones however, have had one of their worst seasons in recent memory, and are just 2-18 overall and have yet to win a conference game at 0-15 in the Big 12. Tuesday is their senior night, so perhaps they can put together an upset performance in their final home game of the year.
Longhorns right in the thick of things late in the year Texas must avoid a letdown in taking on the lowly Cyclones on the road, as they were in a dogfight last time they played in a game that Texas eventually won by just a six-point margin. Having been a tad inconsistent as of late, the Longhorns must use Tuesday’s game to get things right and soar to their 15th win of the year. There aren’t many concerns as to if they will make the tournament, as they seem like a lock, but they must finish the season strong in order to have momentum going into the postseason.
The last time they played earlier in the year, Andrew Jones was sensational on the offensive end with 23 points and all five starters finished in double-figures, but their bench was virtually nonexistent and managed just seven points in total. Their depth was clearly an issue, and it nearly cost them, as Iowa State came out ready for them, and nearly pulled the upset. The Longhorns will now try to avoid an upset once again, this time on the road, as they head to Iowa State on Tuesday.
Cyclones were shredded on the boards last time around, must be better on their senior night When these two teams last met back on January 5th in Austin, the Cyclones were in the game the entire way, giving Texas all they asked for and eventually losing a close game 78-72. In that game, they were dominated on the glass, and although they are at a size disadvantage against a lengthy Texas team, they must display maximum effort on the boards and go blow for blow with the Longhorns if they want to pull the upset on their senior night. It has been a brutal season for the Cyclones, who have yet to win a Big 12 game, and have not won a single game in the year 2021, having lost their last 14 in a row. With their season now coming to a close, they must rely on their offense led by Javan Johnson, who had 21 points in the last game against Texas, to be able to finally pull one out before season’s end. They Cyclones outshot the Longhorns last time around, but only managed four offensive rebounds, which must be better if they have a chance at winning their final home game of the season.

The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons will travel to the Wolstein Center on Tuesday evening to take on the Cleveland State Vikings in one of the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Championship Tournament. These teams are very familiar with one another as they faced off four times in the regular season with the Vikings winning three of the games, but the Vikings won both games at home. They last faced off on Feb 20 where the Cleveland State Vikings went on a 45-25 second-half run to win 67-55 on the road. The Mastodons are the 10th-seed in the bracket after defeating the 7th-seed Green Bay Phoenix 89-84 in a double overtime classic on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals. The Mastodons are 8-14 with a 6-14 conference record while the Vikings are 16-7 with a 16-4 conference record as the top seed in the tournament.
These teams are similar on the offensive side of the floor so it will be interesting to see which team can take control defensively, especially after seeing so much of one another. Let’s take a deeper dive into these programs to decide where we should be placing our wagers.
Godfrey Leads the Team The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons have depended on junior guard Jarred Godfrey to lead the offense this year. He is averaging 15.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in 33 minutes per game. He’s shooting 47.1 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 82.9 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Phoenix, Godfrey played 48 minutes and finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and a steal. If he can have his hand in everything like he did in his last game, the Mastodons have a chance to pull off the upset.
The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons have been struggling on defense this season as they are giving up 77.3 points per game. In their last game against the Green Bay Phoenix, they allowed 84 points on 31-of-64 (48.4 percent) from the floor, 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from the three-point line, and 25 free-throws. If they can defend without fouling, they will be in a way better position in this upcoming game.
Guard Up The Cleveland State Vikings have depended on senior guard Torrey Patton to lead the offense this year. He is averaging 14 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and a steal in 31 minutes per game. He’s shooting pretty well as he is 46.1 percent from the field, 29.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 63.3 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Mastodons, Patton played 37 minutes and finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. If he can figure out how to repeat this performance, the Vikings should be in a very good place. The Cleveland State Vikings have been decent on defense this season as they are giving up 69.4 points per game. In their last game against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons, they allowed 55 points on 20-of-44 (45.5 percent) from the floor, 10-of-25 (40 percent) from the three-point line, and 10 free-throws. If they want to continue improving defensively, they need to stop allowing open looks from the basket.
