The Cal Poly Mustangs will be on the road as they take on the UCSB Gauchos, the Mustangs will have their hands full with the number one team in the Big West. The Mustangs have been atrocious this year as they are 3-17 along with being on a 7 game losing streak. The Gauchos are exactly opposite to that to say the least, they have a record of 17-4 and are leading their conference. UCSB was on a 13 game winning streak before they lost their last game by 16 points.

The Mustangs are a little better facing the odds but still not as good as they would hope at 6-13 ATS, they have also earned a record of 13-6 against the over/under in favor of the under. The Gauchos are 12-7 ATS while they have nearly split the over/under with a record of 10-9 in favor of the under.

Mustangs Without Horsepower
The Cal Poly Mustangs have been torn apart all season long as they have only 3 wins in a total of 20 games this season. It does not get any easier this time around as they have to go at it against a team who has a +9.4 point margin this year. The Mustangs are one of the worst offensive teams in the country as they are only averaging 59.4 points per game. It does not get any better on the defensive end as they are allowing teams to put up 72.3 points which does not vow well as UCSB is scoring 73.1 points on average. The Mustangs are shooting the ball at 43.2% while their opponents have been knocking it down at 50.8%. If the Mustangs want to upset the Gauchos in this one they will need to score more than 28.2 points in the first half which is their average.
The Mustangs have been led by Forward Alimamy Koroma who really has to put this team on his back this year, he is putting up 12.9 points and 5.8 rebounds. In two of their three wins he was at or above 17 points. The Mustangs may have exerted their motivation for this season but they have a great opportunity in front of them to take down one of the best teams in their conference. The Mustangs will need to hang around with this team to pull off a win here, if they get down by a even a 7-10 point margin they will lose all hope.

Gauchos Look to Rebound After Loss
The UCSB Gauchos have been nearly perfect at 17-4 but lost their last game and will look to get a momentum win here against the Mustangs. The Gauchos have been scoring well at 73.1 points per game but it has been their defense that has helped them win 17 games this year as they are only giving up 63.7 points. The Gauchos are shooting the ball at a high rate (53.3%) while holding opponents to only 47.0%. The defense will be a big part of this game as they are holding teams to 27.8 points in the first half while their opponent is only scoring roughly 28 points in the first half on average. UCSB does not make it easy for opposing teams either as they are allowing turning the ball over 11.4 times per contest, they will not beat themselves.
The Gauchos have been getting big minutes from Guard JaQuori McLaughlin who is putting up 16.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists. The Gauchos have only lost 4 game while only 2 have been from more than 5 points, the 2 games that were out of reach featured McLaughlin only scoring 9 points in one and a slow start in the other where he ended at 7-15 from the field. When McLaughlin has a poor night the Gauchos are not as strong on the offensive end. They should have no problems here as the Mustangs are essentially beating themselves this season.

The CSU Fullerton Titans will travel to the RIMAC Arena on Friday night to take on the UC San Diego Tritons in a Big West Conference showdown. This will be the first of two matchups between these teams before the regular season comes to a close. The Titans are eighth in the Big West with a 6-7 record and a 5-7 conference record. They are coming off a 67-64 win over the UC Irvine Anteaters on Feb 20. The Tritons are 5-10 this season and are riding a two-game losing streak after dropping a road game 75-64 against the UC Irvine Anteaters on Saturday.

These teams have a little bit of separation statistically and with a bit of time off between this two-game series, there might be a little rust. Let’s take a deeper dive to determine where we should be placing our wagers.

Titan of the Titans
The CSU Fullerton Titans have depended on junior guard Tray Maddox Jr to control the offensive production this year. He is averaging 15.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.8 steals in 32.9 minutes per game. He’s shooting incredibly well as he is 45.7 percent from the field, 43.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 61.9 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Anteaters, Maddox played 39 minutes and finished with 15 points, six rebounds, one assist, and a steal. If he can figure out how to perform a little better, this will be a nice game for him.
The CSU Fullerton Titans have been shaky on defense this season as they are giving up 76.6 points per game. In their last game against the UC Irvine Anteaters, they allowed 64 points on 24-of-63 (38.1 percent) from the floor, 3-of-14 (21.4 percent) from the three-point line, and 16 free-throws. If they want to continue improving defensively, they need to figure out how to hold teams to that type of three-point percentage.

Forward Thinking
The UC San Diego Tritons have depended on junior forward Toni Rocak to control the offensive production this year. He is averaging 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.6 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 19.7 minutes per game. He’s shooting decently well as he is 48.9 percent from the field, 21.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 66.2 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the UC Irvine Anteaters, Rocak played 19 minutes and finished with five points, nine rebounds, a pair of assists, a block, and two steals. If he can score the ball more than he did in his last game, it will help the Tritons be more competitive.

The UC San Diego Tritons have been decent on defense this season as they are giving up 70.9 points per game. In their last game against the UC Irvine Anteaters, they allowed 75 points on 28-of-59 (47.5 percent) from the floor, 6-of-12 (50 percent) from the three-point line, and 16 free-throws. If they want to continue improving defensively, they need to figure out how to defend easy shots.

The UAB Blazers will head to Texas to square off against the North Texas Mean Green on Friday night, The Blazers have erupted for a 19-6 record but still sit at the number five spot in the CUSA. North Texas has rode a hot streak lately as they have won 8 of their last 10 games which has earned them a record of 13-7 this season. Even with their slow start this season the Mean Green still sit at the number two spot in the conference and will look to add a big win to their record against the Blazers.

The Blazers will look to avoid being even facing the odds this season as they currently sit at 12-11 ATS, their ability to play lock down defense has allowed them to keep 16 of 23 games in the under this season. The Mean Green are 11-8 ATS this season as they play a similar style of basketball which has allowed them to play 11 of 19 games in the under this year.

Defense is Key for UAB
The UAB Blazers are 19-6 on the year and a large portion of those wins have came from the defense of the Blazers. UAB is smothering teams and only allowing 61.0 points per game while averaging 8.1 steals. These two teams are nearly identical when it comes to scoring and points allowed so what sets the Blazers apart? UAB is averaging 35.9 rebounds which is two more than the Mean Green but 10.4 of those are on the offensive end which could give North Texas some problems. UAB does not shoot the ball as well but their ability to force turnovers on the other end allows them to put up points. While shooting the ball at 49.0% they have held opposing teams to only 46.5%. The Blazers will undoubtedly have a tall task on their hands but they have enough firepower to take down the Mean Green.
The Blazers have four players who are averaging over 10 points a game with Guard Michael Ertel carrying the load with 12.3 points. In four of the Blazers six losses, Ertel has been held under 10 points. Even though his 12.3 points may not seem that important with others ability to produce, he is a big part of spreading the floor to get others open. He will be a big factor in this one and if the Blazers want to take down the Mean Green they will need all 12.3 points from Ertel.

A Taste of Their Own Medicine
The North Texas Mean Green have bullied teams all year long on the defensive end as they have only been giving up 61.5 points but they will have to see what that is like as UAB is only giving up 61.0 points. The Mean Green are a better shooting team even though they are right below the Blazers in scoring, they have been shooting the ball at 55.9%. They will hold an advantage at the three point line as they are knocking down 7.7 three pointers per game. The Mean Green will need to play heavily on the glass in this one as UAB holds a rebounding advantage and snags 10.4 offensive rebounds per game, North Texas can not let them pull down that many on the offensive end if they want to win this game.
The Mean Green are getting a huge portion of their offense from Guard Javion Hamlet who is scoring 14.1 points while hitting 38.5% of shots from deep. Over half of the Mean Green losses have came when Hamlet is scoring less than 10 points, that cannot happen in a game where offense will be hard to come by. Hamlet will have to give North Texas a lift early to be able to spread out the defense of UAB and find some rhythm for the offense of the Mean Green.

Conference USA’s East Division is slated for a fantastic match up Saturday evening as the Old Dominion Monarchs take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at the E.A. Diddle Arena in Kentucky. This will be a two-game series between C-USA East’s first place Hilltoppers and second place Monarchs that could potentially impact the seedings for the Conference USA Tournament starting March 10th in Frisco, Texas. The Monarchs are coming off a 73-60 victory over MTU in which they covered the +2 spread while the Hilltoppers just beat FIU 71-59, failing to cover the -16 spread.

Can Western Kentucky Dance?
As of this writing, Western Kentucky is seeded 12th in Joe Lunardi’s preliminary NCAA Tournament bracket. With two games left in the regular season against a solid Old Dominion team, WKU only needs to win one game this weekend to clinch the C-USA East Division title. It’s something head coach Rick Stansbury shed light on in the Bowling Green Daily News, saying, "we’ve gotten to this point and now you can see light at the (end of the) tunnel." On the season, the Hilltoppers are 17-5 overall and 10-2 in C-USA where they have also gone 8-2 over their last ten games.
The Hilltoppers have a star in center Charles Bassey who had a fantastic game last time out against FIU, scoring 22 points, pulling down 15 rebounds, and swatting five shots. Second leading scorer Taveion Hollingsworth is no slouch either, racking up 20 points and seven rebounds last game and averages 14.2 points on the season. WKU puts up 74.7 a contest, but they are not a team you want to put at the line, ranking 11th nationally at 78.6% from the charity stripe.

Monarchs Playing Good
Old Dominion may be in second place, but don't let that fool you because this is a strong team. They have won three in a row and five of their last six all of which helped them arrive at this point where they could make things interesting with a sweep here. Head coach Jeff Jones understands the importance of these games, telling the Virginian Pilot, "If you’re a competitor, these are things that you dream about and you look forward to." On the year, the Monarchs are 10-4 in the conference and 14-6 overall, but are still only one game behind WKU for first place.
Western Kentucky's best scorer, Malik Curry, had ten points the last game before leaving with a head injury. He's expected to play this game and the Monarchs will need him because he leads the team in points (14.6), assists (3.8), and steals (1.9). Kalu Ezikpe is another factor for ODU's offense, averaging 10.8 and 6.7 rebounds. On the season, ODU is 8-10-1 ATS, but have won two of their last three games ATS.
