Over at Tradesports they have a Smarty Jones to win the Belmont by 3 or more lengths. Bid 42.0 ask 44.0.

So, if you think he will, you will risk $4.40 to recieve $10.00 total back that's +127. However, if you think he won't do it, (like me) then you are risking $5.80 on your $4.2 guarenteed money, that's -138. I'm sorry Smarty. I don't know thatyou are going to win the race and even if you do, I doubt you're going to be driving at the wire!! Go against Smarty by 3 or more!

I'm glad I waited. This prop has now risen to 60 on the ask and 56 on the bid!! So now, I can short Smarty Jones and for every $5.60 I short, I am only risking a $4.40 loss!! That's +127 that Smarty doesn't win by 3 or more. I'm going to wait and see if it rises even more!!!

RICHARD ENG: Oddsmakers' numbers strongly favor Triple crown winner

Smarty Jones will be the shortest-priced favorite in the Belmont Stakes since Spectacular Bid went off at 1-5 odds in 1979. Both colts were on the verge of the Triple Crown after easy wins in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. They looked like sure things in the Belmont. But that's where history will separate the two.

The Bid lost his Belmont because of a stupid ride by jockey Ronnie Franklin, who dueled through six furlongs in 1:11 1/5 with an 85-1 long shot named Gallant Best. By the quarter-pole in the 1 1/2-mile race, The Bid was spent and finished third.

Smarty Jones' jockey, Stewart Elliott, figures to be a lot smarter. If Elliott rides his race, as he has done in the Derby and Preakness, the son of Elusive Quality will become the 12th Triple Crown champion.

Smarty Jones' toughest opponent might be himself. He's not running against the ghosts of prior Triple Crown winners such as Secretariat or Seattle Slew. His foes are merely mortal -- Rock Hard Ten, Purge and the like.

For him to lose, Smarty Jones would have to regress badly off the Preakness and another colt would have to run the race of his life by many lengths. It could happen, but it seems unlikely.

This Belmont will be for history, to see the first Triple Crown champion since Affirmed in 1978. There will be plenty of other races on Saturday to bet money on.

Is Smarty Jones deserving of immortality? Listen to trainer Elliot Walden, who, with Victory Gallop in 1998, dashed the Triple Crown hopes of Real Quiet.

"I felt like Victory Gallop was deserving of maybe winning one more of the classics," Walden said. "Real Quiet was not the dominant horse that you need to be to win the Triple Crown.

"Even last year with Funny Cide, I didn't feel as strongly, even though he had won the Preakness with as much authority as Smarty Jones did. I think Smarty Jones is as dominant a horse as we've seen."

Eng's picks -- Smarty Jones, Rock Hard Ten, Purge, Eddington
