best bets (1-5)
strong plays (5-2)
regular plays (6-4)
opinions (6-4)
overall (18-15)
not a great start, especially on best bets, but they will get better. i will add to these plays as the week goes along. i have already locked these wagers in at these lines.
arkansas +10 over alabama (best bet)......it looks like alabama is up to its old tricks, even with a new coach. can't cover the spread while favored. this is another boring, 6-3, 10-7 type of game. both teams will try to run the ball, using alot of clock and neither team should be able to pull away by 10 points in this one. once again, bama wins, but doesn't cover!!
iowa state +2 over ohio (best bet).....i know ohio is not a bad team at all, but give me a break. sure iowa state is not in the top teams of the big 12, but a weaker big 12 team is still better than a strong mac team. ohio will give them a game since they are playing at home, but in the end, talent wins this one.
oregon -6.5 over usc (strong play)......like alabama, i am sick of how good usc is supposed to be. oregon a great home team, and they will pound an over-rated trojan team.
s florida +7 over memphis (strong play).....memphis is one of those team that you take as a dog, and play against as a favorite. i was impressed with s florida's win over pitt. pitt was supposed to be an up and coming team this year and s florida totally outplayed them on both sides of the ball. they will be able to stay within a touchdown of memphis here. this line opened at 9, i wish i would have taken it then, but 7 is still a good number. take s florida.

Hello to all. This is my first post after just finding this board. FWIW, I usually play about 5-6 games a week college and pro combined and I usually like to play the early lines on anything that jumps out at me.
This week I'll play 2 games on early lines and wait on the rest. Rght now I am 4-2 and +4 units on a 5 unit system. I'm sure nobody really cares so here goes...
Arkansas +10 over Bama - 3 units
Fresno St -13.5 over Tulsa - 3 units
I'll wait on the rest.

Arkansas +10 at ALABAMA ... These two teams are both offensively inept, but pretty good defensively. May not score 10 COMBINED! Not to mention that I think Arkansas, behind the running of Cedric Cobbs, wins it outright.
NOTRE DAME -9.5 vs. Michigan State ... Thwarted by Nebraska two weeks ago and by cancellation last week, the Golden Domers should be ready to bust out on someone. Unfortunately for Michigan State, which looked anything BUT impressive in their win over Central Michigan, they get the hungry Irish in South Bend.
WASHINGTON -23.5 vs. Idaho ... An emotional Husky squad should wax the outmanned Vandals.
MORE TO COME ... GLTA!
Daredevil

No problem. The short version...
I like Arkansas to cover because this is a battle of 2 mediocre SEC teams neither of which were impressive in week 1. They are both running oriented teams and 10 points is just way too many in my opinion. The whole game could go either way. I also think Bama will win but it may come down to the 4th quarter.
Fresno St. on the other hand should be a much stronger favorite than they are at 13.5 against Tulsa. This Fresno St. team is for real and is the same team that beat Oregon St. by 20 points. I'm not buying that Tulsa is a tough team, whatever their margin of victory was against Indiana St. Any other top 15 team would be a 20+ favorite at Tulsa. It's almost like the oddsmakers are asking you "I s Fresno for real?" I'm betting they are.
[color:"#800080" SIZE="1" FACE="Verdana, Arial"][Edited 1 time by JC on 09-19-2001 at 01:07 PM]

adding thursday's games.........
best bets (1-5)
strong plays (5-2)
regular plays (6-4)
opinions (6-4)
overall (18-15)
rice +34 over nebraska (regular play).....nebraska slightly over rated, and rice not as bad as people think. i see nebraska winning by 24-31 points.
s carolina +3 over miss st (opinion).....i like lou holtz plus the points in a defensive struggle.
under 39 s carolina/miss state (opinion).....just don't see alot of offense in this game.
YTD 19-16
MISS ST-3
SC not a very good road team. Special Teams and Home Field should provide enough for the Bulldogs to get by the number. They're also playing for a Dback who lost his sister in the tradegies.
Good Luck,
BH

Florida -32 over Kentucky
Lots of points to lay, but Kentucky is breaking in another new QB, and they have some DT's banged up. Florida should be able to run and pass at will. Hell, Ball St. racked up over 400 yards vs. Kentucky. Florida will be able to finish off drives, and the Gator secondary should have a field day. Much highlight material here.
Purdue -17'over Akron
More chalk, eh? Purdue not afraid to run up the score and get some more reps in for the young offense. Akron stayed within two touchdowns of OSU, but that's a bit misleading. Akron won't be able to stop Purdue.
good luck everyone

To correct my previous post, I'm up +5.na - 4 units
NC State -15.5 @ SMU - 4 units
Arkansas +10 @ Bama - 3 units
Fresno St -13.5 @ Tulsa - 3 units

When I look back at them I can't remember the last time I layed so many points on visiting favorites in one week. Gotta go game by game though, and these are the ones I like the best.

[color:"#800080" SIZE="1" FACE="Verdana, Arial"][Edited 1 time by JC on 09-21-2001 at 10:19 PM]
