The scary part of the 35-26 was the play of their defense, particularly against the air attack. South Florida QB Marquel Blackwell threw for 343 and four scores in a game that deflated the intensity of tonight's contest. In addition to the obvious problems on the defensive side of the football, the Panthers could be without the services of WR Antonio Bryant. <BR> <BR> Miami comes into Pitt Stadium on an absolute roll. The Hurricanes have posted wins of 33-7 and 61-0 to start the season, and come into this game with a 12 game winning streak. In fact, the Hurricanes have won 18 of 19 games, the lone loss a 34-29 setback at Washington early in the 2000 campaign. Ken Dorsey has exceeded 300 yards in passing in each of the first two ballgames becoming the first Hurricane to do so since Vinnie Testaverde in the 1984 season. <BR> <BR> Miami has won 11 of the last 12 meetings with Pittsburgh, including a 35-7 win last year in which they led 13-7 at the half. The Panthers are 0-6 against teams rated #1, and havent defeated a top 5 teams since a 30-22 win over Notre Dame back in 1987. <BR> <BR> With the offensive firepower under their belts, it is conceivable that the Hurricanes will blow the doors off this Panthers team. Considering the poor defensive performance in their loss to S Florida, the Panthers should probably just mail this one in. The games must be played, however, and this one will certainly go off as scheduled. <BR> <BR> Miami will score at will in this game, that is not a concern. With the feeling of being snubbed by the BCS last season still fresh in their minds, I see the Hurricanes pouring on without mercy as they did against an equally enept Rutgers squad. Miami has won 11 straight against the spread in Big East play, and after tonight they will make that 12. <BR> <BR>note: This spread has moved more than any game I can recall in the last 10 years. After opening at 19, this game can be see around as high as 30. Although rolling with public sentiment isnt always something I like to do, the dominance of the Hurricanes in this role can't be ignored.
