Cheeseheads talk is here

Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf, who conducted his final draft this year, wanted to draft another weapon for Brett Favre on draft weekend. Wolf had eyes for WRs David Terrell and Koren Robinson, but both players were taken right in front of the Packers, who held the 10th overall selection. Green Bay did just fine, however, as it added a premier pass-rusher in Florida State's Jamal Reynolds. Reynolds (6-3/265) doesn't have ideal size for an every down end in the NFL, but he makes up for it with tremendous athletic ability. He should be a 10-sack defensive end in the pros.
Wolf found that talented wideout for Favre in round two, when he chose Big 12 star Robert Ferguson. Ferguson (6-2/210) is a physical receiver with the size and strength to battle for passes over the middle. But he can also zoom past defensive backs with his 4.5 speed. The 2001 WR class was deep and Ferguson may have been overshadowed by the bigger names.
Bhawoh Jue has a great upside and could be starting material down the road. He definitely has the ability to contribute right off the bat in dime packages. Wolf hit a home run with the selection of Orange Bowl MVP Torrance Marshall with pick #72. Marshall is a strong 'backer with the ability to play either inside or outside. He was a huge factor in Oklahoma's National Championship season and should bring some of those tangible qualities with him to the next level.
The Pack scooped up sturdy guard Bill Ferrario in the fourth round. Ferrario, who was extremely durable over the course of his career in the Big Ten, carried the underrated label into the draft -- Green Bay got great value with this pick. Tennessee TE David Martin will need to earn a roster spot. The Packers signed a pair of undrafted QB prospects after the draft (Kansas State's Jonathan Beasley and Arkansas State's Cleo Lemon), and hard-hitting safety Damian Demps.

The Green Bay Packers waived 12 players on Sunday, including veteran quarterback Michael Bishop.
Bishop, who was one of five veterans terminated, came to Green Bay off waivers from New England on August 21. With playing time in eight games over his two- year NFL career, Bishop was 3-for-9 with a touchdown and an interception.
The other veterans released were offensive lineman Richard Mercier, defensive linemen Giradie Mercer and Aaron Fields and cornerback Corey Chamblin.
Also waived were six rookies and first-year players, most notably, Kevin Stemke of the University of Wisconsin. Stemke was the winner of the first annual Ray Guy Award in 2000 as the nation's leading collegiate punter.
Stemke punted three times for the Packers in the pre-season for an average of 39.7 yards.

Even though Green Bay and Tampa Bay aren't in the same division anymore, they do play each other in 2002 - and Tampa has the advantage by not having to travel to Green Bay.
