Dan Marino has accepted a job as the Dolphins' new head of football operations and will be introduced at a 5 p.m. press conference today.

Sources told The Miami Herald that the former Dolphins quarterback accepted the job with some unexpected caveats to a typical general manager job.

Marino, 42, will not necessarily be responsible for making personnel and talent decisions for the team -- an undertaking for which he is clearly not prepared. He will likely rely on current personnel boss Rick Spielman for personnel recommendations.

Spielman was one of seven candidates the Dolphins had interviewed for the general manager job, with the understanding that the post would be responsible for talent evaluation duties. Marino did not interview officially for the job.
