Underlying metrics like EPA per play don’t like Stanford either. They rank 102nd on offense and 95th on defense. Syracuse should have a big edge in the Carrier Dome.

With the Yankees coming off a loss and Oakland coming off back-to-back wins against the Cubs, I like the Yankees on the bounce back/Oakland on the letdown. Oakland has one of the worst records in baseball and has nothing to play for besides nostalgia since they're leaving after this season.

Gerritt Cole is coming off his worst game of the season (7 earned, 3 BB, and only 2 Ks) where he was pulled after 4 and 1/3. Moreover, in Cole's last game he intentionally walked a batter with no one on base and 1 out. And then it blew up in his face. So, he'll be wanting to put that game behind him. Also, against the A's, Cole is 6-1 and 4-0 in Oakland with a 2.3 ERA.
For the A's they've got rookie Ginn taking the mound and looking for his first major league win. Ginn has less than 24 innings pitched in the majors and sits at a 4.94 era. He recently was promoted to starter and gave up 10 hits on 3 earned in 4 innings in his last outing. Normally I would be hesitant about taking a run line against a pitcher on a bounce back, but this early in his career (4 starts in 6 games), he may lack the mental fortitude and/or the actual ability. Facing Aaron Judge with the season he has been having and the rest of the Yankees who have already clinched a postseason berth and coming off a loss, would be difficult for any rookie pitcher and likely the majority of veterans. If the Yankees jump on Ginn early, I imagine it will snowball and his outing will be cut short.

With Cole being on the strong bounce back plus his familiarity with this park, the A's due for a letdown, and the Yankees facing a rookie pitcher, I think the Yankees will jump out to an early lead and cover the run line here.
