Rockies ML (+115)
Very rarely should anyone back the Rockies but I think they take this one. Rockies aren't good by any means but they're 6-5 in their last 11 and have been playing better in the second half of the season. The Cards are also 6-5 in their last 11 but the Rockies have been hitting a bit better in the same stretch. The biggest problem with the Rockies is they have the worst starting rotation in baseball; however, their bullpen is not terrible. Last night, the Rockies were actually up 3-2 going into the 7th when their bullpen cost them the win. So i like them to bounce back here.
Gomber is taking the mound for the Rockies and he is just not good. But...he is coming off his worst start of the season where he was rocked for 5 ER in 2 innings. Prior to that he had strung together 3 quality starts. Gomber is also facing his old team and this is likely his last start of the season, so I like him on the bounce back here and try to finish the season on a high note.
The Rockies will be facing Fredd and he's a decent pitcher, however, as the season has gone on his stats are getting a bit worse, nothing crazy but ERA has been climbing, Ks are down, and he's allowing more flyballs which is usually not good at Coors. He's also coming off a pretty good game where he went 6 innings with 1 ER and 1 BB. Prior to that, his previous games were definitely hit or miss (6.3 ERA in his previous 5), no pun intended. Since being traded to the Cards, he's having trouble stringing together quality games and is only 1-5. At Coors, he's 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA.
So, with Gomber on the big rebound, the bullpen on rebound, being a home dog, and the Rockies facing an up-and-down pitcher who is allowing more contact (which is not a good thing in Denver) plus coming off a good game, I actually like the Rockies to win this one.
