Hi all,

I know poker used to be talked about a bit here in the past, and I am only bringing it up in the sense to ask if anyone had experience playing in large, multi day tournaments. I will be playing my first major large tournament, having won my way in.

I have played the game off and on for many years, decades actually. Just a hooby of sorts, prefer live casino games and tournaments .
I love just chatting with others and the atmosphere around it. Due to where I live now and various circumstances, had not played live in 6 years until we drove a few hours so I could play a few hours. That showed me how much I missed it.

I am not a high stakes guy, 1-2 no limit is my highest level normally, and have never bought into a tournament for more than a few hundred . I will be in over my head so to speak in this upcoming one (I am not tring to promote anything which is why no details).
However, I am confident in my abilities, have learned patience of the years, but a 1 day tourney, which might be 8 to 10 hours long, is different than 5 days. Of course, I could be out on day 1, but dreaming to make it to day 2 as my first goal .

The strategy if I can call it that, is simply to be patient, play my game as they say, and hope the moments come where I can capitalize and build a chip stack. I am not a huge drinker so won't be getting hammered when not playing, although will be in Vegas with my wife and want to make sure I spend time with her as well, but rest is also still something I know I need to make sure I get

From others experience in long tournaments, any tips on how to keep focused, or things to be aware of, thjngs like that? I can't do energy drinks (past heart issues) but normally, I drink lots of water and enjoy my coffee when I need a bit of a boost.

I plan to just enjoy the experience as for me, this is a bucket list, once in a lifetime opportunity. However, I would love to do well obviously but need to focus on smaller pieces, like make the dinner break, make it to day 2, then I guess it is the same thing the next day.

Never entered in a multi day tournament, I play no limit in Reno when I get a chance and feel up to it.

Good Luck

Good old Reno. Lots of memories for me.

My wife took me there when I was 21 (she is 10 years older than me and had been there before), and that was over 37 years ago now! Lots of trips we made there, we even eloped and got married there one trip, at the Reno Wedding Chapel :) We used to drive there, a 12 or 13 hr drive I think it was, from Vancouver where we lived at the time. I only played poker there a few times as I was just getting into it. I think it was first bad beat I was at a table for there then, but only got a few hundred bucks but it was a cool experience.
Thanks for mentioning Reno and taking me back there with some memories.

Not sure how I missed this.

Headphones for music, snacks that will give you energy and most important watch the other players to get some tells. Don't look at your cards until it's your turn, that's why you'll be watching others.

Play your game and don't over value marginal starting hands. Trash to cash is fine with cash games but in tournaments you will have a quick exit.

Stay focused and alert!

Headphones for music,

Back in the day I liked to play at Luxor. The poker room was close enough the lounge to listen to the band playing. The sportsbook there was also beside the exit out to the pool. I was a lot younger in those days lol.

Pay attention to betting patterns and tighten up on your starting hand selection as the tournament progresses. The only time I play any sketchy hand is on the blinds or unless I'm over 30 big blinds. Personally, I avoid ace/rag in tournaments. Always a bad luck hand for me . And NO slow playing a big hand. Make them pay to play.

When will you be playing. I’ll be in Vegas the 24th to the 30th. I’ll be playing in a few tournaments also.
