Both starters can control the shape of this game. Sale gives Atlanta strikeout upside against a Yankees lineup that has been flat-out bad, while Cole is still more than capable of limiting traffic even if his barrel profile creates some concern.

If Sale handles the Yankees’ cold stretches and Cole avoids the multi-run homer, this profiles more like a lower-scoring road favorite script than a full offensive eruption.

Yesterdays game was 0-0 til the 8th and I don't think it will be that low scoring but runs will be at a minimum. Chris Sale in his last 3 starts is 3-0 giving up only 9 hits and 3 earned runs in 19 innings. Cole for the Yankees is pitching almost as well. Chase Burns is the clear difference here, coming in 13-1 with a 2.35 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 137 strikeouts in 118.2 innings, while Andrew Alvarez has a 1.45 WHIP and has walked 31 in just 64 innings. Cincinnati has also been swinging it well against lefties and comes in 7-3 over its last 10, while Washington is just 2-8. The Nats are only 23-34 at home and their bullpen has been one of the weaker groups in baseball, giving the Reds another advantage once Alvarez exits. Burns should be able to limit a respectable Washington lineup and shorten the game for Cincinnati's pen.
