If you look at both teams schedules, you will notice USF beat several 3 win teams, a 1 win team and a 5 win team. All their loses resulted in blowouts.

San Jose state was competitive enough in their loses to Boise state and UNLV IMO.

Both teams are motivated here and San Jose has by far the better defense. Yes, they will be without star WR Nick Nash but that presents a great opportunity for Justin Lockhart who is more of a big play threat and had almost 1000 yards receiving this season.

San Jose (+3)...two pretty evenly matched teams. USF qb Brown could come back but I look at this as more of a distraction. He has not played since 9/28 so will be rusty. Homecoming fro SJst coach who also lost his dad this week so I think the team rallies. A lot of the SJ st players were here in Hawaii last year to won't be too distracted by what the islands have to offer. Lastly, SJ st have the better defense so I will take the points.

In what should be a close game I’ll take the points with USF. SJST top WR Nash is out. Motivation shouldn’t be an issue for both teams. USF has won 3 of 5 and SJST has lost 3 of 5. Should be close. Take the points.

On my spreadsheet I have a situation that favors South Florida as an underdog that 30-17 this year

First off for SJSU they won't have their star receiver Nick Nash as he's elected to opt out. He'll be one of the first WRs drafted IMO and it hurts me to bet against SJSU as I grew up in San Jose. On offense USF is well balanced averaging 226 yards passing and 191 yards rushing. So you have to respect both sides and can't shade to one. SJSU is 5th in the nation passing at 325 yards a game but like I said, Nash won't be playing. Taking USF in what I think they'll win straight up.

I also don't have much of a rationale for this one other than I think the Bulls have generally been solid in the limited looks I've had of the team. Offense has been serviceable and I'm happy to take the points in these spots. USF in a one out of five stars play.
